ok my dash shock light was on so i ordered some new gears for the top of the struts. i started tonight with the rear 2 because they are easy to get to. the left one was cracked and i tapped out the old pin removed the gear and replaced the cracked gear with the new one.(Thinking wow this is easy) i then checked to see if the motor was working it was. then i checked the other side and all was good. hoping this was the problem i drove the car and the light was still on. so i decided to move on the the harder ones up front. i removed the trunk top and saw the strut under the brake res. i then some how managed reached in removed the cap and saw the gear was rounded and broken. i then managed to tap out the pin without losing it. (That was hard) but when i got the pin out the gear top only came out. the rest in stuck inside. this is where i need your help. how do i get the broken pieces out of the strut with such little working room. i thought about supergluing the gear together so maybe it would lift off but do not want to try this if there is a better way. what does the nut on top do? i might able to take that off. HELP.... it always has to be the hard side with no room on these cars.

    thx

You need to talk to Rob Schermerhorn at DeltaVee Motorsports (deltavee.net). He is the expert on all things to do with F355 shocks.

I second that - Rob is as standup a guy as I have ever dealt with, and I would highly recommend using him (and I have absolutely no affiliation - he has rebuilt 4 shocks for me already and has stood behind his quality and word every time).

Go to the website (deltavee.net), get the phone number, call the number, and ask for Rob. He's a great guy...super knowledgeable and super nice.

    Mark,
I have looked at that as well. I have replaced one of my rear gears a year or two ago. This spring I started getting a suspension light and after swapping shock actuators around on the rear, focused my efforts on the front. While checking and inspecting the gears on the front shocks, I noticed how difficult it would be to replace those gears, if any were bad! Fortunately mine were good, and it ended up I had a shock ecu with an intermittent connection, and a replacement fixed me up.

I have heard of people sucessfully replacing the shock gear (in place) on the front, but it would be a heck of a lot easier to remove the shock and do it.

the funny thing is i was in the clear. the hard part was over. (getting the pin out in such little working room.) maybe i can do the glue trick i will see. i just do not want to glue it in there. hehe.

Update. i got all the new gears fitted . I had to do a little megiver work. one actuator had a rattle noise and i was not sure if it was working. The funny thing is that captainz's is only 30 min from me( http://www.captainzcnc.com/index.html) and he tested it for free and all was good. My question is. Do they all cycle at the same time off the shock ? because the one that i was worried about i did not see move and because of the rattle i assumed it needed to be fixed. so far 2 of the 4 gears were bad. does the SUSPENSION ECU ever go bad? ps the rears worked fine when i keyed the car on and off. the front left one did not cycle but maybe it did and i missed it. Lynn from captains said it worked fine on the bench test. hmmm

You can get intermittent connections...the wires are soldered onto a board inside the actuator, and the connections can go bad. I had one that was intermittent, and swapped it for a known good one. Eventually I will get the bad one fixed.

    ALL FIXED

thx this thread helped before i got started

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199095&highlight=shock+malfunction+light

the actuator was fine and i used all the tricks plus 2 of my own to finish the job. it was just the bad gear up front.

it was a good feeling when the light went off.
