Hi I have recently looked on the autotrader and have noticed quite an assortment of ferrari's on an affordable scale (e.g 97 ferrari 456Gt with 15k mi for $73k). Although my price range sits between a 308 and 340 I would like to hear from all of you regarding Insurace costs, and yearly registration. Although 308 and 340 are expensive to maintain they are rare. Even it sitting still captures attention, I mean common you could place these cars in a museum and it would attract a crowd and people would not even realize it doesn't run due to a blown engine!!

re insurance. use the search feature and also type in "Hagerty". there are several threads on insurance, Hagerty is better for older cars, 308 ect . i am not sure who to reccommend for newer ones and i prefer carbs to fuel injection.

My 308 costs $24 per month as a classic second car with farmers. it is over 25 years old and its intended use, (without mileage restriction), is shows parades and other unspecified uses. (Also includes $30k in collision ins.)

This is with a married 58 year old driver with a clean record, (5 years) and have been doing business with Farmers for 30 years.

It would appear that the agent has some discretion in car placement.

    hth,
    chris

American Collectors insurance here, about $200 per year, but a 2,500 mile cap and can only be driven for recreation. Full coverage. Over 25 years old and you can get some great deals.

What the hell is a 340? I assume that you're not talking about a vintage 340 because that's a pretty big price swing.

My 84 308 is covered by State Farm. I have "full" coverage with unlimited milage. It runs around $325 every 6 months.

By the way, a 308 is not really expensive to maintain. They may be expensive to fix, but they're not too bad just to maintain them the proper way. Especially if you do all your own minor things like fluid changes and brake work that can be done VERY VERY easily at home on a Sat with just a set of jack stands and a little lift from K-Mart. Anyone says otherwise needs to explain how in the hell I have been doing it for 10 years. I don't even have a garage.

Like it or not, the hard truth is that there is NOTHING exotic or fancy with the mechanics on a 308. Don't believe me? My fuel injection is just an O2 sensor upgrade from the exact same as on a 77 VW Rabbit. Simple simple simple.

That's why the 308/328 is the BEST entry level Ferrari, period. They are "cheap" and durable and fun. Yes, a good running mini van will blow the doors off one at a stop light these days but so what? A mini van doesn't draw a small crowed at every fill-up.

His profile mentions a 348 so I'm guessing that's what he means...we all have brain farts :)

Oops. I just saw that. However, I saw previously that he put 340 in at least another thread so I thought that was what he really meant.

FYI the "brotherhood" is the 348 owners. ;)

So you need to post this in the 348/355 section. Not in the 3sl0w8 section :D. Hehehee
