My daughter studies in RI, is turning 21 in October, just got her first USA driver's license 2 months ago. HIGH RISK!

I explored buying a new car, and was quoted $6K insurance cost per year, due to her inexperience, this, on a $19K car. even though she has had an El Salvador license for 4 years and is an excellent driver and go-kart racer.

    Unfortunately, that, does not count.

The early conclusion, after talking to a friend at State Farm, is to look for a very inexpensive car, that has to be reliable, and only insure the car without comprehensive or collision, and just have liability, which brings it down to a more sensible $1200 per year.

She cannot go shopping for a car on her own, as cars are not her thing, she only knows that old Ferrari are the best, and has a great eye for what looks good (unfortunately)....,
but she'll be taken for a ride at the used car lot (literally) and needs transportation for the next 2 years.

Anyone out there in the New England region, have a reliable, inexpensive car? Possibly one you have cared for, and now is a nuisance, but still something my girl will like. Oh, and it must be an automatic...

I just don't have time to go to Providence looking for cars

    Thank you.
    Regards, Alberto

Consider not getting comprehensive insurance. If she gets into an accident, make sure it's not her fault. Her experience will help with this.

And if she does get into an accident, you pay for the damage to her car. It's like self-insuring in a legal way.
