Blackhorse Motors on La Cienega has a silver all-original 78 on the showroom floor, last I checked. And they ALSO have the expertise to tell you EXACTLY how it should be.
I posted a thread on this topic and done some research on my 78 308 GTS: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/371442-original-rocker-panel-color.html It appears that the bottom angled portion of the rocker is black but the 3" strand underneath the door opening is body color. They used a rock chip textured paint. I bought mine from 3M and it looks great.
If all you wanted to know was about the rockers, then the carbed and 2v GTS had body colored rockers below the door, until the angled part essentially "under" the car, which was black. The QV had black rockers starting below the door, and continuing into the angled part. The A pillar and B pillar also were black on the carbs; not sure about injected 2v, but I believe painted body color on the QVs.
Doug, what areas are you concerned about? BTW, like that area you live in, the mountains and the proximity to the ocean.
