My "clearbra" guy discovered 2 stone chips already on the front bumper of my wk old CS, dammit, so we decided to do a quick touchup on them prior to clearbraing over them. Need the paint code. All we could find were some numbers on a PPG sticker inside the boot, but the bodyshop guy couldn't trace the proper code for some reason with those.
Also, what would cause a long beeeep sound while sitting in traffic for several minutes in 1st gear not moving? There wasn't any warning light that came on the dash. It sounded off then went away. I did place it into neutral right after that, thinking it was some kind of warning I was in gear too long, but not moving.

i have heard that same long beep a couple times. i think it is a clutch overheating warning tone. i had the same thing a few times on my modenas also. i'm going to ask my dealer, but i don't think it's serious. but ask your dealer to make sure.

That's definitely where you find the paint code. My F dealer is an hour away, so my local Lambo dealer mixed me a small bottle of touch-up paint from the code number and it is a perfect match. Can't imagine why your guy is having any trouble.

That's the clutch overheat warning. I think it advisable to put the car in neutral while sitting. People will argue it but I think it wise. F1's don't like sitting around.

Thanks guys, don't exactly know why my bodyshop couldn't find the formula on his computer, but I'm going to bring it in to him, and let him match it... one way or another.
Re the beeep, I suspected that it was some sort of clutch warning, since I recalled reading something about it many moons ago, but appreciate the confirmation. We got stuck in a traffic jam caused by a fender bender during rush hr. So, what about at a traffic light, so do you recommend putting it in Neutral there or not?

if you are idling and standing still with your foot on the brake the F1 system handles the clutch the same way. in this situation it doesn't make any difference to the clutch (or throw out bearing) if the car is in gear or in neutral. i think that the reason the clutch heats up in bumper to bumper traffic is the constant slow starts and stops. but if you are sitting at a traffic light there is no advantage to putting the system in neutral.

if you are in gear for >10min the F1 will beep and shift into N same if you release the brake pedal for > 4 sec

my CS had an apparently common condition new from Factory that the clutch would slip even if it was open - I did not recognize it since I always go in neutral short before I stop - the service manager found out that it would ever so slightly engage when he brought the car in - I would check with your dealer if you think the clutch overheating warning was on; they can check (the TCU it records the time period of the clutch overheating situation)

I do, it can't hurt. It's similar to sitting with the clutch in on a manual, why not just put it in neutral? If there is even the slightest advantage to doing something that will preserve the clutch, I'm all for it ;)

well...actually this is not true in a 360 F1 system. the 355 F1 system was different so this may have helped reduced wear on the throw out bearing on a 355F1. but not on a 360 F1. when you are sitting at a stop light with the car idling and your foot on the brake the state of the clutch and throwout bearing is the same weather you put the car in neutral or leave it in 1st gear. this is definitely counter-intuitive, but it's true. you'd think that if you popped the F1 in neutral at a stop light that it would disengage the clutch, but it doesn't. so there is no advantage in doing this. the only thing that gets a bit more wear is the throw out bearing not the clutch. and from what the mechanics have said is that the additional wear is minimal.

one of the ferrari mechanics on this forum posted a fairly detailed explanation of this topic a few months ago. i'll poke around and post the link if i can find it :)
