I have had a repair of a paint stress crack on a 23 year old rosso corsa painted car..
The paint shop is telling me original glasurit paint can not be tinted..must go with 2 stage modern paint.

Please, does anyone know personally a paint shop manager or painter that could answer my inquest?? Is this true about single stage..

    Thanks
    Michael

Call your local Auto Body Supply shop. They sell the paint and tints and would also be able to advise you about tinting.

Two stage paint is a catalyzed paint system and the only way to go. first off, trying to match the 20 year old original red paint is going to take some work as sunlight tends to wash the color out ( give it an orangish Hue). Single stage paint can actually take a few hours to dry off before dust won't stick to it. It also means that the solvent used in the paint has a good chance of lifting the original paint around the repair as it stays wet for a longer period of time . Blending colors on one panel is virtually impossible and requires but matching to the next panel .Sometimes it needs to cure for a week or two before it's hard enough to polish with any success. Two-stage paint allows you exceptional tinting latitude, is out of dust in roughly 15 minutes can be sanded and polished in 24 hours, allowing you to match any original finish. extremely durable. Family owned a body shop for 30 years, painted for 12 years with PPG and Dupont products .:)

    No, it is false.

That said, the more you mess with it, the worse it will be, unless you shoot it seam to seam. Which, as we know is not always possible with the way Ferraris are built.

Mike Regalia is the person to contact. IMO

He's out there, West Coast, with shops like Juniors House of Color as a competitor....:D :D
Junior never could do a Daytona though, he always over sanded the front fenders....

    True enough, your comment.

The real issue is the older paints are now illegal to spray in any large quantities.

A shop in a metro area would be taking a chance with EPA enforcement, with the off gassing, or you need someone "out in the country" to do it.

    Maybe an old abandoned mine.....:D :D :D

I just had this done on my 95 F355. The car looked nice before the repair but up close it had tons of tiny rock chips and also a few scratches.

My options were to fix/blend with modern base/clear or panel paint with original Glasurit.

I chose the latter and everything ahead of the doors was resprayed. They tinted it and did spray outs on test panels until it matched.

It did take a while to get some of the components for the paint as I don't think it is used much anymore.
