Hello, Can anyone tell me the best place to find a tranny for my 75 dino 308gt4. I lost first gear and no one will even look at it. So I think my best bet would be to either rebuild it (any reccomendations?) or get a good used one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Where do you live? How are we suppose to know where to send a transmission? Otherwise I would say that you should go to your nearest Ferrari dealer and let them locate one for you.

    Welcome to F-chat!!

Although this question would better be posted in the tech section..I'll try and help you out.

First, make sure its just not a simple adjustment that is needed. Can you better discribe the what is happening with 1st gear??

308 transmissions (or any Ferrari trans for that matter) are very sensitive to adjustment. A little bit "off" can cause all kinds of weird things to happen.

Another easy one to check is the shifter bushing in the selector shaft at the transmission. Overtime these can get soaked in oil and lose there strength, basicly fall apart. If this happends finding gears can be difficult. Its an easy one to check as it is external of the gearbox.

Basicly, before you condem the gearbox, have a look at the little things first. Once you have made sure everything around the box is ok..then head on inside.

I live in NY ( long island) and ferrari dealer said that just to look at it would cost me a fortune. One night over the summer, !st gear became stuck and I couldnt move. After it came out no more first gear 2,3,4&5 work fine. A ferrari tech told me that there are forks in the tranny and that the 1st gear fork was the prob.

Please tell me how to fix and I will have my buddy look at it. I can trust him, He is a great mechanic, But we do not know how to tackle this. Ferrari does not help, anytime you mention ferrari nobody wants to touch. I do not want to put a lot of cash into this car as it is not a very desirable one. We are ready to pull the motor to mabe have the tranny shipped to a reputable rebuilder.

Pulling the motor is easy. Lots of owners that are not mechanics have done it with a modicum of tools. After that seperating the engine from the motor is not all that big a deal. At that point fixing a shift fork problem is a slam dunk.

It can, and should all be confirmed without pulling the motor, but it is certainly not rocket science. Even if you are not comfortable with doing it, should not be terribly expensive.
