Yes, I am already planning for Spring! What are your recommendations for a open top car that will seat 5 people? I realize this likely takes me out of the import range, since I don't want to consider the ponderous RR/Bentley offers. Frankly, I don't want to spend too much on a car that leaves me and my passengers vulnerable, preferring something that would fit in at any weekend "cruise-in", or be able to be driven to the office and hear patients say "cool car, doc!"? Thanks in advance.
This is a hard question for CURRENT cars, but you may try the Toyota Solara or a BMW M3 vert. Most convertibles have such horrible backseats, much less a third seatbelt. Good luck.
But are these true 3-passenger backseaters? And, no, they don't have to be current cars. Does anyone know if the backseat of a MB 380/560SL can squeeze 3? Or how about even a Mondial cabrio? I see the direction I need to go in.
Not much, Noah. You know I am cheap (I go to McDonald's with coupons in hand)! We are talking chump change here; definitely not a show stopper.
Late-60's Cadillac. Really nice ones available in the $9K - $20K range. http://www.cars-on-line.com/26029.html http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-Convertible-Rust-Free-California-Car-L-K_W0QQitemZ130043762367QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6146QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I prefer the '65-68 with the stacked headlights. Someone at work was selling a white/white '67 or '68 for around $7K, it looked like a decent driver.
American it is. I also prefer the stacked headlights...or the Caddies with the "Dagmars", come to think of 'stacked'!
So a Scott Storch style Phantom's out of the question then? Shame: http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/4359/dsc0428ch7.jpg If you were willing to go for something European, there was a company in the UK that used to do convertible conversions of Jaguar XJ6's (both series 3 and XJ40) in the 90's, they were pretty cool.
1995 E320 convertible....from the era when the engineers designed the cars at MB, not the accountants.
You are talking about the 107 body style and most didn't come with a back seat. Some have the pad and you would not fit any adults in there.... maybe a child or two. I think a clk would give you more room.
An older Jag cabrio would do nicely, but out of my current range. Yes, these are beautiful. I have started to look at them. The question still remains about three rear passengers; if fit is not a problem, then I can rig a third set of seatbelts. CLK would be nice, but my budget fits more with the E320 Cab. Nice muscle! I take it that it's a hemi, but not being a Mopar expert: Challenger or Satellite? Would jump on a Mondial Cabriolet unhesitantly if someone can tell me that three can fit behind. I had an '83 QV Coupe but the (transmission?) hump precludes more than two. I have seen pics of the rear seat in a convertible and the hump is not a feature... btw, this post # is the same as the year of my BD!
Hmmm...I think one impractical Ferrari is enough...for now. That's why I need something with enough backseat for those darling kids of mine (although sometimes they do make me want to consider your idea of "trunk space"!
In a pinch, you can get 5 in a Chysler Sebring. There is a company in Ocala, Florida, that turns Chrysler 300's into four door convertibles.
