DAMMIT! I feel the urge to confess here...... Without actually seeing the car in real life..... I am starting to like the design!! (but only with the 'correct' colour choices! Pfeew)
Color choice and spec are going to really impact the feel of this car. More so than in previous models in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I feel for Manzoni. He came up with a great original design, a Testatarossa of our times, but people are just complaining. The design is far more interesting than 812 SF. I especially like how the structural requirements are combined with the overall design. Let me challenge you. Why do you think... 1) the rear flaps exist? 2) and why they are black?
812 dislike to justify 12Ci - both great builds. Rear flaps can be ordered in Carbon - not sure why the color matters and you kinda gave your own answer by calling it a flap
Ferrari does. They're just a contemporary version of yesterday's "influencers", representative of their society.
Not really dislike. 812 was a facelift model of F12 and not that interesting styling wise. I was surprised to find Competizione much better although I nowadays favour elegant designs. Regarding 12 Cilindri flaps. Obviously they did not end up there just for aerodynamical reasons. I will write more about this later.
Not yet, but I'm scheduled to soon. But usually my first impressions stick with me 80% of the time and in this case since it draws inspiration from a car that I personally think is ugly, I don't think my mind will really shift here. I wasn't a fan of the 296 design in the photos and in real life...it still holds. Yet the Icona Series SP3 Daytona...I'd light every Ferrari made in the last 10 years on fire just to get my hands on one...that design is SPECTACULAR. It is true that some cars don't photograph well but in person they are much different, like the Pagani Huayra looks horrible in photos but in person it looks very elegant. Just with this particular car, I love everything except how it looks, like the G series BMW M3/4's.
Ferrari could make a car that looks like the cyber truck and it would sell out. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I have yet to see it in person but the design is underwhelming to me. The black piece in the front is the worst part of the car to me. I’ve seen some renderings of it in body color, the front nose that is, and I liked it. The wheel design looks exactly like the wheels from a new Hyundai sedan model I saw recently and they just don’t look right. The name seems like it was a lazy effort and the design seems to be the same. The fact that you’re not allowed to change the black plastic front is also irritating. It’s almost as if Manzoni knew most wouldn’t care for it so that’s why he felt the need to make it mandatory. In all black it looks ok. The spider looks better than the coupe in my opinion. F12 is still king in the looks department with the 812 comp a very close second. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
This makes no sense. They are building both side by side. Each car is made to order. From engine to body panels. So if that’s the case, it shouldn’t matter how many spiders have been ordered, the queue is the queue and you shouldn’t be able to jump the queue by ordering a coupe. Have they made all of the body panels for the entire production run and stored them in a warehouse ahead of time? Obviously they haven’t.
From what I was told the spider does not start production until 2025, whereas the coupe starts this fall, so about six months apart. The demand for the spider is far greater than the coupe at this point.
Of course. When one has the option of a retractable hardtop, there is no reason to select a fixed roof.
Manzoni puts flaps and gills on every car. In the transition from PF it was the major design element furthering the distinction between his style and something like the F12.
Depends of course on the usage preference and general weather conditions. The coupe has much better performance/price ratio and faster delivery. You get also extra pair of side windows and option for roof window. 35% larger boot is also welcome. And regardless of what you think of delta wing rear, that is certainly the iconic head turner element of this car.
Just realized that 12 Cilindri is actually a crossbreed of two 70's classics. Besides the obvious Daytona, the other being Lancia Stratos Zero concept car, from where the delta-wing and the sharp rising side line have been inherited. Unless the external aesthetics are different which in this case they are indeed. Rear is totally different look for these two.
Ferrari writes about the 12 C "Instead of adopting a rear spoiler, the designers have used two active flaps integrated with the rear screen, creating a signature delta theme. The overall perception is of a seamless whole, creating the idea of a very high-tech form." So it seems to me that the use of active flaps instead of the rear spoiler has much more to do with the desire to create a different design than with the aerodynamics.
Anyone know the weight difference of the standard vs the larger 21 inch wheels? And if the rear flaps are available in carbon, how well will they resist fading and color change due to direct sunlight. Perhaps those with a factory carbon roof panels or other exterior trim from the factory can share their experience.
What I should have said is there is no COMPELLING reason to order a coupe versus a retractable hardtop. There is no longer any meaningful difference in structural rigidity and does anyone really care about a slightly larger boot in a super sports car. These pale in comparison to the ability to put the top down for al fresco motoring AND even when it isn’t super nice out, being able to put that little rear window down and hear the engine and the outside is awesome. The only thing that tilts it back a bit for coupe lovers is that they have finally made a proper sunroof for the car which brings some light and a feeling of overhead openness into the cabin, which is a great addition to this model series.
Perhaps somewhere between. I did use too strong word "inherited", though. What I really meant to say that it is possible that Manzoni has been "influenced" by Stratos Zero design. But what is 100 % sure, 12 Cilindri has inherited features from Vision GT concept.
