In your experiences, what should I try to negotiate with a Ferrari dealer on a used 2004 or 2005 Ferrari? The asking price was $130K, got it down to $125K (no big deal). The belts were done at 15K miles, which was two years ago. I would have to ship the car to another state. Should I ask the dealer to change all the fluids? What else is customary for a Ferrari dealer to do on a used car transaction. This will be my second Ferrari, but my first time dealing with a Ferrari dealer. I'm working with Scottsdale Ferrari.

Seriously wonder if your negotiations are going well when you don't spell FERRARI correctly...

If you are in Houston you are talking about Rissi. I think it is pretty obtuse to think that the price is not negotiable. makes me wonder.......

First off it's "Risi" not Rissi so pot, meet kettle and second off he's asking about shipping so I doubt he's buying in Houston.

I always like to figure out how low is low i.e. wholesale number. Call any dealer and see what they'd give for the car you're looking for on a trade in. A couple of calls and you'll know how close you are to rock bottom. You'll probably be able to get them to throw in a fluids change but shipping is always a tough one if you're approaching any kind of bottom line. Good luck.

Everything is negotiable as long as it's in good faith and reasonable.

Remember.... it's just business. No need to get personal.

Yes, I made a typo. Thank you for being so nice to point that out. There always seems to be a**holes out there. Thanks to all the others out there posting real replies. Should I get an independent PPI if purchasing from a Ferrari dealer?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

Definitely get an independent PPI. The Ferrari dealer, any dealer really, has but one interest and that is to sell you that car for as much as they can get from you, and as little as they can do FOR you. Protecting yourself is never a bad idea and good luck!

You're spelling is still way off.. you should have put an s and another s where you put the * and the *.

One thing I have learned is to be polite when negotiating. I have quit being bashful when it comes to asking for a discount but I do it politely and be willing to walk away...

I would ask for a fluids change AND free shipping...and unless you are dealing with disposable income, definitely get an independent PPI

Sorry for being snippy but you know how many tweenage dreamers we seem to attract around here... ALWAYS get a PPI done when buying an exotic
the issues these cars can sometimes have can be expensive to fix and any reputable dealer will not find any reason NOT to help you get this done. They don't need the hassle of trying to get something fixed later or having a customer with unrealistic expectations of the condition of a used car. A second set of eyes can save you thousands and the dealer even more.

Ask for a 90-120 day warranty. Bumper to bumper.

That'll tell you a lot about the car. Indicate if anything goes wrong with the car in that period, shipping back and forth is on them as a part of the warrant.

Get them to do a belt service (check to see if it's had a major in the past 3 years, if not, get that.) Since it's clear that the dealer isn't right around the corner from you, best to make it less rather than more likely that the car will need to go back to them. I doubt they'll toss that into the deal, but perhaps a discount on the service would ease the pain for you. It'll also lessen the risk on their part when it comes to the warranty. I would think they'd be willing to compromise on the cost in order to insure themselves against some future warranty related problem.

I bought a 2000 360 from a dealer and got a discount on the major, and a 90 day warranty. The 90 day warranty saved me a couple thousand dollars when the O2 sensor went bad and when the brake pads needed to be replaced, which they did for free under the warranty. They also fixed some other odds and ends n/c.

Push the envelope a little, the cars are not exactly flying out of the showroom right now. What's the worst that can happen? They say no. What's the bet that can happen? you could save thousands of dollars.

There was a fellow that recently returned a red 360 I believe a 2004 to Scottsdale Ferrari for repeated Cel issues after purchase. He posted a # of times his plight on F Chat. I do not know if it was a spyder or coupe. Definitely get PPI and some guarentee for at least 30 days. From what I've see in Co. prices are beginning to rise again. I do know Scottsdale ferrari is very reputable.

I know a guy who bought found a dealer and had the dealer do the ppi and when he got the car the belts weren't done like the dealer said and hoses that needed to be replaced were not noted to be replaced.so if you really want this car take or get a indenpendent. I bought my car from a GM at a dealership and brought my own machanic and the dealer let us use his lift and shop to do the ppi. about five hours we spent there. thay want to sell the car

and lets not forget the most important thing of all... get it in writing. again... i worked with these guys for 9 years or so... They are a great outfit and will stand behind the car. They are an extremely large corp. all that being said... get it in writing... then you won't have to skrew around with 6 people on the he said she said. get the "last service date" in writing etc... all the stuff that is important to you should be written down. Of course, a PPI which there are plenty of great independents here will yield you the most comfort for your deal.

Then what could possibly be your problem with tweenage dreamers as said in your earlier post? It seems you would embrace your own kind or maybe you were just having one of those moments.

Bobby, I don't have any reason to get into a pizzing match with you. My background is well known on this board hence the "consultant" tag.
I can not afford a Ferrari, nope can't, make no mistake I am dirt poor. I write and take pictures for the magazines that might just be on your coffee table right now. It is a great way to make an awful living.

Always get the PPI done by an arbitrary third party even if the vehicle has a warranty.
Its always easier to get things repaired or replaced before the money changes hands. Also remember that everything is negotiable.
Lastly if you feel you must purchase the vehicle before the repairs are made, to get such in writting and that the sale is noted as contingent upon completing the work. And maybe even a second PPI for confirmation.
