Does anyone remember around 1999 or 2000, at the NM store downtown Dallas, that they were displaying a late-Fifties front-engine Ferrari open wheel racer in the window?

It was definitely a real racecar, with a nice patina. I stared at it for 20 minutes... One of those things you see that gets burned into your memory.

99-00 was after I started paying attention to F1 but before I started really getting into Ferrari specifically.

Not sure if F1 or F2 or what model, I've pored over books for hours trying to figure out if that car in the window was a recreation, or a real racer... it may have been a car of that peroid but not actually a Ferrari, just painted that way with shields added. The details I remember just dont match any period Ferrari pictures I've found.

Is there any chance someone has a picture?

A quick internet search reminds me it was part of the Festa d'italia display late sept-early oct 1999.

Unfortunately I didn't go to digital pics until 2001... I'll have to dig for my photo.

That's more details than I had before, so thanks for that.

If you ever come across that picture, I hope you'll post it.

If I am not mistaken it was the Gerhard Berger car that Guiseppe Risi owns. It was transported in in the Ferrari of Houston Race Transport and the race crew disassembled it to get it inside and then reassembled it on the display in their team race uniforms.........Quite a sight...........

They had worked out a deal that Neimans would provide the Christmas decorations for the Ferrari of Dallas showroom when the new store was built. If you guys remember the Ferrari store ended up having the huge blown glass ornament Christmas tree that had been the main display at NM the year before......

The Berger car may have been there too but it's the car in the window I was most curious about. A search of the Festa di'Italia term Simon yielded this:

Can't recall what year, I stumbled onto an F1 Ferarri upstairs at NM. I had the car all to myself, made my day.

Could it have been an Alfa Romeo from Enzo's Scuderia?

This is the one! (Above) Or very, very very similar to it. Seen in this thread:
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=342658

    I just stumbled across it.

I wonder if it could possibly be the same car? This one is sitting in a museum in Switzerland. Will ask Marcel when I have a few minutes later today.

I'd bet a hundred to win ten that the car I saw was a 500 F2.

If it's not, then what I saw was a very faithful copy. But there were a handful (5) of these sold by Ferrari to customers for racing, in addition to works cars, according to Barchetta.cc ... question that remains is, if authentic, which chassis number was in the window display?
