Black cars always look great, provided you wash them daily and don't at them in sunlight (all those micro hairlines in anything less than a perfectly detailed car).

I've had 3 black cars and keep swearing off them (and at them).

Is Ferrari's black metallic easier to keep clean than its plain black? Does it show swirls as much?

Any fanatical black metallic owners out there? (I mean the car - don't care if you're caucasian or whatever...)

I have a black (Nero solo, con Stugots) 550 Maranello, Range Rover HSE Westminster, older Land Cruiser, BMW R75/6 -- all black or satanically dark adriatic.

Yes, the love of the detail is an illness in the DSM-IV, but what the Hell. Automagic and Mother's each make a nice "cover the little hairs (straight and curly)" between super waxes.

Check out 'Detailer's Parasites, er um, Paradise' based in Denver. . .Very inexpensive options to keep your baby an object of lustful desire.

I had a Jaguar XK8 in metallic black -- yes, easier to hide filth, but not nearly as sexy as Jet Black. The latter of which, when cared for, can look 'wet'.

Metallic black never really looks black. It's a bit of an oxymoron.

My blk/tan 430 is a ***** to keep pristine but after 7 coats of Zaino-it rarely needs washing-just Zaino quick detailer and the surface has that "wet, smooth as glass" look and feel.

    Dr. Weiner,

Those are two gorgeous cars you have. The Zaino is worth it!

I've got a mettalic black 348 and my cousin has a flat black VW Golf.

Both cars have been Zymoled using Destiny and Vintage. Next week it's having the Royale applied, as has the Golf.

The mettalic is easier to clean, but the flat black looks much shinier, but shows the scatches more. One person who saw the mettalic car thought it was a dark grey. I guess that depends on the light.

I have to wash the car more regularly than any other car I've owned, even though I drive it less than any other car I've owned.

As for choosing black over red for my first Ferrrai... it was love at first sight. It had to be, because after 4 previous black cars....I swore never again.

I have a black metallic 308, use Meguiars NSX, great shine , lasts a long time and no swirls. I'd guess the metallic would hide some but not all swirls if you did have any.
