Never again will I call the jackass at superperformance. He has JE pistons made to his specs. I call to purchase these pistons and he says they are made for him only but he does not have any and will not get any for about a year because he has to order a large quantity. So I asked him what am I supposed to do can he give me a part # or Job# so I can find the part here, since JE is from here. He said no they are his pistons and then he starts laughing. What a jackass! It leaves me thinking what if I had bought pistons from this clown and by accident dropped one during installation. I would need to call him to get another. I wonder if his response would be to laugh and tell me I need to wait a year for one. What a jerk!

Big Tex, I know but I was hoping to run JE's. I am having troubles finding any pistons made in the US with a 10.1 ratio. I was also trying to avoid having to have them made to my specs. ( does that make sense ). I was hoping to buy them off the shelf.

Call Maccovicci - Wenz Inc., on Long Island. If they can't get/make what you need, I'd be shocked. Peter Marcovicci and Ted Wenz know everything and are fantastic folks, built loads of F motors.

If you are in Socal (sounds like you are) just get in touch with JE direct and see what they say. They are usually very good people to deal with. IMO they are one of the best piston makers out there and I would hate to turn my back on their products just because of that clown.

I did get in touch with JE and the sales person is tying to find out which ones were sold to the clown. I think he is running into some snags because these piston were made for the clown and I think they are worried about selling someone elses specs to me. If I send them one of my pistons and a mold of one of the heads they can make one for me. I would rather buy something that has been sold and tried rather than having it made for me. I am living in Canada (yes we did get some snow today) so everything I buy is from the US. There are not many places that sell older ferrari parts and when they do they are very expensive.

Dwhite, Marcovicci- Wenz inc Would need to have them made for him and he would still need a piston and mould of the head to do so. He still would feel uneasy about it. He would like the motor there to check clearances.

You might contact Bill Badurski - Ferrari Technical Forum. Best of my knowledge, he does a lot of engines and his advice has been right on (a least for me)

J&E has probably made innumerable pistons for 308's, they should be able to supply you with either those pistons with a small crown change (as the mold does not belong to asswipe) or at least tell you of someone else that has ordered 10:1 pistons from them for resale.

I don't know what engine you are working on,
But I'm sure you already know this...
Before ordering a stock size piston off the shelf, I would sure take a digital caliper to my cylinders to find out if my liners are in spec.
And if not, what size overbore to match pistons with.

The problem is finding the JE's with the 10.1 without having to send JE a piston and a mould of the head. JE has produced them I just cant find them. Without a part# or job# JE is having a hard time finding exactly which ones I need.

This is rediculous. Many years ago I had pistons made for my Alfa Sud race engine by Cosworth and it took ages because they had to make tooling ... I paid for that, but guess what Cosworth have that tooling now and can make as many as they fncken like.

The asswipe did exactly the same.

Also just tell them the size of the pistons you need. They can probably use tooling they made for something else ... like a Honda engine, etc. The main part of the tool is the forging tool which shapes the inside of the piston ... the rest is shaped by chucking them in a lathe and machining.

Thus I suggest you forget about the fancy dancy pistons that this guy ordered; ring up, JE give them all your piston measurements and they will make them for you ... and guess what you do not care what tooling they use ;)

    Good luck.
    Pete

Did you talk to Mike about alternatives on the pistons? He has Ross at 10.0:1 that he feels are as good as the JE's.

I know nothing about differences in quality from make to make on this, maybe someone here has experience and can help out?

Call Marcovicci - Wenz, They are a top engine builder in the US and know everyone. Almost bought a Cosworth BDA(would have been street tuned for 190 HP 9K rpm) from them for the TVR in '00. I could not swing it at the time - 8k. I kick myself today. But, I did get a ford 2.0 liter SOHC which makes 170 hp at the flywheel at 6800rpm(have dyno sheet). I'm sure they can help you.

I spoke with Ted about a 246 rebuild last year and he said should be around 8K - of course you have to give them just the motor. They are a race shop which works exclusivly on motors and does not take in complete cars.
