My father was 68 years old (young) when hu bought his first Ferrari. Is he the oldest man to buy a Ferrari for the first time? Or is there more crazy old, but young, guys out there?
Here is a picture of his car and my Lotus:

I'm sure there are MANY people who purchased a dream car later in life.

Congratulations to your father for living life, no matter what his age!

I feel pretty lucky. I busted butt, set goals and made the first 'real' one happen when I was 29....308QV

I got my 'first' Fcar as a wreck when I was 21 and spent the next 9 months putting it together....Mondial 8....drove it and sold it for a profit to help pay for shchool.

    Ciao..........Dino

Yeah, so it took me 25 years working in my profession & a death in the family to get my my Ferrari. So which car would you rather drive?

BTW: why is your nic "328"? Shouldn't it be a Lotus thing?

I was 24 when I got my first one. I picked up a 1978 308 GTS, the only one I could afford at the time. I ate balogna sandwhiches for years to afford it too...ahahhah, but I made it happen. I still have the car, but at least its paid for now.

You're never too old to indulge in Ferrari ownership. I was 36 when I bought mine, and I feel that's somewhat young by my standards. Most people I know, bought their cars well into their 40's and 50's. Too old? Never! Only when you're dead, is it too late.

My '88 Mondial was bought new by a 78 year old, cattle ranch owning, grandmother in San Antonio. While researching the car's history I called the dealer who originally sold it and he remembered when she bought it. She was asked if she could drive stick and she responded that she's been driving trucks and tractors on her ranch her whole life. :)

She drove that Ferrari until she was 88 and then gave it to her daughter-in-law , whom I bought it from 4 years ago. She was 70.

So, I'm the proud owner of a Ferrari which was only driven grandmothers over 70. Nobody will ever believe it when I sell it. :)

Now you can honestly advertise it as "lady-driven" if ever you wish to sell it. My suggestion: print and notarise this post.

    Cheers!

52 when I made the deal, 53 a month later when I posted the check, 55 now.

I'm not ruling out trading up or buying another Ferrari in the future if $$ circumstances right. I would very much like to restore my present Ferrari to 95+ point condition, and with a 330 2+2 Series I, 5 years at least before spending what it would take is justifiable. That will make me 60+.

Age is definitely not a factor. :)

First of all, I have to admit that I'm very envious of you all! I just can't imagine waiting so long to finally achieve the dream of Ferrari ownership. With each passing year, did it knaw away at you that you weren't yet an owner? Or was the passion so strong that it didn't matter?

Your compliment is much appreciated. :) Thanks!

    Andrew:

Looking back, in the three year period of singlehood between college graduation and marriage and the new priorities that followed, I could have easily afforded to buy any production 2+2 V12, a GTB or Daytona had I stretched it some. But, I was at a low point of interest in cars. The car virus, and particularly the Ferrari virus, didn't kick back in strongly for 25 years. So be it. I have now taken advantage of the renewed opportunities to get into Vintage ownership and have no regrets.

    Moral:

If you're young, get it while the getting's good. Where there's a will there's a way.

If you're middle aged or older--same applies.

If you want a Ferrari, there are plenty of affordable ones out there. It may not be the "The Dream", but you'll be happy if you do it right.
