I reset the trip odo on my 59 Cadillac and refill every 200 miles. Never know if the gauge will decide to work that day.
Three letters - AAA. BTW, my Harley Deuce has an inaccurate fuel gauge. Every time I fill the tank I reset the trip odometer. When I hit 200 miles, I start to think about getting gas.
I agree with AAA, it's cheap for peace of mind. But yeah the fuel gauge in my 308 was sort of wonky too. It wouldn't barely move when totally full, then would dive at alarming rates when closer to E.
The gauge in my 328 does exactly the same. I had some very nervous drives searching for a nearby gas station early on in my ownership.
The car has 2 tanks connected with a 1 1/2 inch pipe. The level (and gauge) will change a lot when going around corners or on tilted ground. Less than 1/4 tank and it can run out easily.
I kinda guessed it was that and the shape of the tanks combined with the type of sender (variable resistor isn't it?). Wasn't a big deal once I figured out it did it.
Precisely. I learned a lot about that car in the first few years. Including some of it from you. I also like to joke that the gauge is manufactured by Veglia - pronounced ‘vague-lia’ for a very good reason.
Indeed. If that’s the biggest complaint I have…. This car is staying in my garage for a long, long time.
