New 1:64 Hotwheels, F430 Spider and 512M

At Big Lots today...TR and Cobra Daytona mystery cars; many thanks to whoever opened the packs and didn't buy 'em! However, I know how that TR owner at Monterey feels (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=254225)...while getting the bags out the trunk the TR fell out of the bag and landed on its roof. There are a couple paint nicks on the right side fenders but still driveable. I might part-it-out to help pay for its replacement. Also got a cool Monaco poster for $4.

My son spent the night with grandma on Friday and came home Saturday with a bunch of new cars. I really like the Camaro and note Mustang has an error (mismatched wheels).

I got 6 new errari racers fron TRU today.

Turns out the 308 is actually a chameleon. Its part of my closet display and every now and then I'd notice it would have a faint reddish/pinkish tint. I realized I noticed this when the a/c was on (I have a vent in the closet). I found it would return to the beige color when I held it in my fist (i.e. exposed to a higher temp). This morning I did a test and put the 308 in the refrigerator and as the pics show it can get very pink!

I did a quick Google search and I assume the 308 is one of these: "...introduced briefly in Hotwheels cars in the 1980s - Thermal Color Change...able to change color on exposure to hot or cold water, and there were an initial release of 20 different cars, available as sets of three vehicles..." link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Wheels

I suspect the Countach mentioned in the second quote is one as well and I'll "test" it with my son and post the findings.

You are correct. I believe it was the late 80's.

There was a car wash that spit out water when you pushed a button and changed the color of the car. I have a few of these.

I have all the Ferrari Color Changers, and if you ever have trouble getting them to change..stick it in the freezer.

 

I have that Countach one. It was part of a set I got long time ago. Came with some truck that changed from a regular delivery truck, to one that was carrying a dinosaur.

 

I have this one as well. My sister found a bunch of my old cars in a case recently at her house and returned them to me. I still have fond memories of playing with the cars as a kid.

 

Found (and bought) the 5 pack at Target.

im 26 now, and i have gotten a few hotwheels while standing in line at the market, walmart, target, etc. everytime, my girlfriend makes fun of me for it. lol. i know im not old, but it makes me feel like a 10 year old again.

i only have a few 'new' cars. so far my collection is a ferrari fxx, 250gto, and AM Vantage.

 

Cool; hope they do other Fcars. I saw the "color shifters" line at Target this weekend and thought it was quite ironic timing given that I just discovered the chameleon 308 in my closet.

I'll try changing the battery.

It's kind of wierd to tell a girl about your HW collection. You have no idea how they'll react. Oh well. Just keep collecting.

 

I'm almost 29 and only really started collecting after I got married. My wife only cares when I purchase 4-5 of the same car. She usually helps me look, and then comments that it's good they are only $1 because I could be spending money on more expensive things.

BTW, Costco has the 1/18 Maisto's again. Grabbed 6 over the weekend, including the orange Superleggara for $12.

I just bought the Color Shifter (Tooned) Ferrari 360 Modena, and I wrote this little PIERRE BERNARD'S RECLINER OF RAGE-style rant about how Mattel insists on labeling the Tooned 360 as just plain "Ferrari 360 Modena".

It's intentionally histrionic.


I also have two of the late-1980's colour-changing Hot Wheels: a Ferrari Testarossa (red to yellow) and a Corvette ZR-1 (purple to sky blue). I used to have a Porsche 911 too (purple to pink, I think it was) but I lost it at some point in the past two decades.

 

Today, TRU:
Daytona coupe is pretty hideous, not as bad as the P4 was. This 599 much better than the flat metallic pink thing. The GTO is fair, burgundy car much better. Scud nice, Spider too. I saw a yellow/black panels regular issue 430 Spider in a 10 pack, no singles. 550 is nice, as is Scud. Still have not seen 355, or regular Enzo in debut paintwork (silver stripe and sponsor list). Passed on the P4 and 575GTC way back, but now I'm regretting that.
Anybody want to trade for something and has one of the above, esp Enzo, LMK.
Found a regular Uglifornia too. Bleagh.

Picked up a bunch of short card Yellow 250 GTOs recently. Also found the 512M short card today with more 250 GTOs.

I really need to hit TRU again. I have been picking em up when I find them. The only ones I don't buy a crap load of though.

Oh yeah! Found the 2009 New Models F1 Racer last week. Very cool!

Finally found a color change Fcar at Wally's, and grabbed a yellow CGT from TRU today.

 

Picked up a new 5-pack today.
Going to check TRU for new racers.

 

I picked up a new Five-Pack too. One I had not seen yet. Has an F50, 156, F512M, 348, and I forgot the last. All in racing trim. The package is the same as the last five pack, but instead of the collection printed on the Monaco Track, it has a 250GTO
