I wanted to post this here as my best friend just had a 296 GTB delivered about a month ago. He has about 600km on the car. Poor guy built and specced it and waited about 18-20 months for his delivery. Over the weekend, we both attended an FCA-sponsored event and thoroughly enjoyed it. On the way home, his car just shut off and died. It would not start, move, etc. He had called Ferrari roadside and waited 7 hours for them to show up with a flatbed truck to tow it to the nearest dealer, which is about 1 1/2 hours away.
The dealer, after doing its extensive tests, found that the main battery, or the hybrid battery, is faulty/defective and needs to be replaced. He asked to the dealer to remove a battery from the stockpile of 296 cars in the lot and replace it. They told him that Ferrari will not do this; they will have to send a new battery from Italy only. This has to be done with ground transport and a boat. They cannot air transport a lithium car battery.
He is very distraught and sad that his car will be at the dealer for the better part of the summer. Brand new and has not been able to drive his car for months. Talk about a major flop.

That’s a tremendous bummer. But they would have done the same thing if it was the engine that needed to be replaced. I think they should figure out a way to get him some other Ferrari to drive during the down time, but thats just me. If the dealer has no car that would fulfill this role, maybe they can find a press car?

Same here in Europe, someone I know literally drove out of the dealership and the main battery went dead. Had to be replaced. Shipment was of course faster.

Not cool. Nothing is perfect. Not even at these price points. How he gets treated will be key though.

What was delivered was faulty through no fault of his own. As such his enjoyment of the delivered product is now unavailable and he should ask for a loan vehicle or, if not made available, a full refund. Any deprecation on the loan car is not his concern and is for the supplying partners to address, ie his dealer and Ferrari.

That's not a very nice thing: I bet there are several with the same problems.

    Ciao
