Thanks to you very patient Fchatters who wanted the 'new' Motovanti. Here's the link - http://www.ferrarichat.com/ferrariads/showproduct.php?product=1598&cat=5 The 'hump hose' idea was a great one. Thanks to Birdman for the suggestion. We just made 10 of these, 2 are gone. ALL are polished. Get your car something fun for Christmas!
Several of you have inquired about others' experience with this piece. I didn't search for long, but found this... <quote:lee328gts> Formula Junior Silver Subscribed Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: planet earth Full Name: Lee Posts: 343 I have to agree. Just buy a faster car. My 328 has a few more horses than a 308 but not by much. I added a Motovanti intake tube, Hyperflow cat and a Tubi exhaust to my 328. Not sure how much if any at all extra horses it adds, we'll have to see on the dyno. Most of the techs i have spoke to on this all seem to agree that it does. I like to think I have 300 or close to HP from the original 270 it came with. Like I said, I like to think! If anything it looks cool and sounds insane. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- </quote:lee328gts> Had a number of inquiries about 'How much hp gain?' and I've got to say: I have no idea. Probably theoretical at this point, I don't have a dyno. Your 'stock' intake tube is just an air path that shrinks to a mere 2.25" at the narrowest point. The intake tube increases this to a full 3" throughout. I did it to my car mainly for the looks. It's faster in my mind! Kept the original in a box for posterity's sake. Others have asked if these included 'everything' to install. Yes; no shopping for oddball clamps or 'how to's' answered by dead silence. The kit is complete. EVEN BIRDMAN INSTALLED HIS OWN! That's got to tell you how easy it is! To BillLicco, yours went out today. Bill may be THE most patient man on Fchat. Thanks. Hope to get the others to the recent requesters tomorrow.
I don't know if it makes any different but I just spoke to Carbonio and they are still making the CF intake. http://www.carbonio.net/performancecatalogue_finlettube.htm Image Unavailable, Please Login
i went with the CF version, as CF tends to retain less heat. You want COLD DENSE air going to the intake. Also, you'll want the 'accordion' hose as the engine moves A LOT on a stock 308 (unless you made mods to the top arm as i did). See image below. As for any **real** added HP/TQ, doubt much was added yet it did 'clean up' the airflow is my guess. If you want more HP/TQ, supercharge/turbo or get another car imho. NOTE: USE THE ACCORDIAN as previously mentioned. The top arm on the engine pick below is custom and uses hard plastic bushing on the rearmost (of car) section and stock softer bushing at the valve cover. During VERY hard braking on the track this greatly reduced the engine moving that, in turn, can cuase the shifting fork from going out of alignment within the tranny (causing you not bing able to shift the car due to misalignment from engine movement). I'm hesitant to post a picture of my engine here due to criticism over major dirtiness....but my only excuse is I drive it. Anyway, I bought the Motovanti because my "accordion" POS intake hose was frayed at one of the creases and leaking...and I'll bet a lot of other people's are too because they are old and brittle. (Don't believe me? Try removing it!) Anyway, I priced out a new Ferrari part and the Motovanti was a bargain in comparison. But the Motovanti looks a ton better (mine is the stainless bling bling version)! I'm willing to bet that you get a little more HP on the top end too. I haven't measured it, but the thing has GOT to flow better than that hokey-looking drier hose that was in there!! Birdman Image Unavailable, Please Login
gad!! i can hardly look at your engine. it's almost like christine looking at the phantom of the opera for the first time!
Now THAT'S funny! Bird Dude, I'm thinking a little detailing might be in order. If I'd known my beloved Motovanti was getting parked in there, I'd have dented it and emptied the vacuum cleaner bag on it so it'd feel at home. The good news: You obviously DO drive it!
I think that Birdman's engine looks just fine. I would have done a quick Ceramic coat in aluminum color of the air tube so it matched the engine and offered some slight temperature insulation. It's a bit bling as it is. And we all know that Mondial's owner, Mrs Birdman, is a lady of subtle restraint and good taste...
Thank you Russ! (Not all of us guys have prissy garage queens! ) Subtle restraint probably...good taste....well she is married to me, so....oh wait a minute...
You should have seen it before Verell powdercoated the plenum for me and a couple of the local FFIC guys (Michael, Jeremy, Eric and Tom) got together and painted the airbox for me as a bday present! If I posted a pic from before the airbox/plenum work, you guys would kick me out of fchat! Birdman
I have the carbonio CF version and love it. I originally had the accordian type coupling at the bottom, but with the supercharger, I was reving it up testing something and noticed that the accordian coupling enlarged like it was a BALLOON!!! I've been running with the "firm" rubber couplings now for several months since then and the CF part has been just fine with no cracks.
The Motovanti looks great. And, with the accordian connector should work fine through the various vibration cycles. I would be surprised if this mod "frees up" any more hp. Just because a bigger pipe will "flow more" than a small pipe doesn't mean you're getting more hp. For example, independent testing of free flow air filters and such typically show no net gain in hp, and sometimes a loss in hp. Why is this? Induction and exhaust flow is a finicky thing. Sometimes it's good to have a little induction "drag" because that produces a pulse which can somewhat compact the intake charge coming into the cylinder upon intake valve opening. If "free flow" was always a good thing then engines would operate most optimally with no induction and no exhaust. If you dyno an engine with no exhaust back pressure (no exhaust) you'll find it makes substantially less hp. Something to think about.
if santa brings a new digital camera, i'll show you a really dirty engine. i owe some 'chatters development pix anyway. the hoses are new, but the metalwork looks like a pfunky old pfenning dropped in a manure pile. living here in a parallel universe as i do, there is no one to help clean gabriella. so i just drive her.
I was thinking that the "dirtiest engine competition" would be great fun...but I'm not sure anyone would enter!!
I would really like to replace my accordian inlet with one of the replacements (Carbonio or Motovanti). I almost ordered the Carbonio yesterday, but I like the way the motovanti aluminum looks a bit better than the CF. But(there's always one but), having read this thread and the other related ones, I am somewhat concerned about the heat-transfer issues if using aluminum. Any opinions on heat effect between CF and Aluminum? Or, is that a non-issue and should I just buy the one that looks better to me?
IMO, I would not think heat transfer would be a problem, in F1 they use carbon fiber everywhere and those cars get way hotter than a 308. I have one alum and one carbon on my cars. The reason I have carbon is the alum was not available when I wanted one.
Cooler is better, and I would expect that the CF will run cooler than the aluminum since the metal will serve as a heat-sink to some degree... but even so I doubt that it makes *much* difference... buy the one you think looks best!
Agreed. Adding even 3 HP is virtually nothing when you do the power-to-weight ratio. Now if you could lover the weight to 1200 lbs wet with driver...
