The date the timing belts were manufactured is stamped onto the side of the belt. Unfortunately, once you've disassembled the car to the point of being able to see the date stamp, you may as well change the belts.

Thats the problem with this whole 3x8 belt change thing; the belts are cheap ($35 each), but is is a lot of labor getting access to them.

I know, that is the dilemma. I am still trying to track down previous owners to see if anyone has any info.

    Thanks for the input

I have had the car a couple of weeks, all is good, runs and drives great, It is such a different car than the 911. After MULTIPLE phone calls and emails, the consignor agreed to purchase the tools, manuals, and pouches from Barry Cross (Green Italian cars) who was referred to me from here.
one thing the passenger door hangs and is tough to shut. I tried the jack thing, it helped but, the rubber on the receiver is damaged. I attached a photo, does any one know the real name of this part ? or the number ?

    Thanks,
    J

As far as the 30,000 mile service, probably a good idea to do the belt service just to be sure. Then the clock gets reset for another 3-5 years, depending on how long you want to go (I think most people do 5 year belt intervals.)

Also, if it hasn't been done in a while, do a fluid service (motor oil, transmission oil, coolant flush, brake fluid).

Also, might want to take a look at the fuel hoses and depending on your comfort level, replace them. I recommend SRI fuel hoses but some people think they are over engineered.

Once you get all that done you should be good to go for a while, though you should change the motor oil every 3,000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first.

    Thanks Furmano,

Had all the fluids done to start with a new baseline, the consignor "lost" the 30K document, I driving it for a while (not to much) then going to do the belts.

The "jack thing"? Please do not tell me you tried to jack the door to raise the striker level! Either learn to adjust it yourself or have someone with experience do it.

Thanks for the input, I did the jack thing as read here, repaired the rubber inside the strike and also adjusted the strike. Everything works great.

    Hello,
Just wondering if anyone has dealt with Tony Fernandes at Euroautohaus in Milton MA
He is a sponsor in the New England Section of this forum. It would give me an additional option when it comes time to do the belts.

    Thanks,
    Jay
