Hello fellow ferraristi, I purchased my first Ferrari ('91 348ts) a few weeks ago and quickly learned this was the site to go to for great info and advice. I've already made several small repairs by searching the forums but can't find any info on why my headlights automatically come on when I start the car and I cannot turn them off...the stalk justs spins with no detents. THe high beam and flash functions work, but no headlight control. Can the stalk be removed for inspection (contac issue?) or is this going to require a visit to the parts bin??? Any help would be appreciated.

Try pushing it in a bit. Mine occasionally works its way out and the keyed end of the stalk does not seat properly.

They are easy to pull out accidentally.

Failing that, search the site for an explanation of removing it. I know I have seen a few threads about it over the years.

    Welcome aboard!

Mine just started doing this recently. I took it apart and found that the plastic cam that attaches to the end of the stalk was broken and floating inside of the column switch housing. There is a gentleman on here who fixes these things for much less than it costs to purchase a new column switch assembly, but I forgot his name :-( That's no good because I'm sending him mine in January...but if you can find that thread (started about a month ago), his name and contact info is in it.

Thanks guys...I tried the push in approach with no luck. I contacted Unobtanium so hopefully they can help. At least the headlights were on when it broke. Does anyone know if their is a fuse controlling the headlights that I could easily remove for daytime driving?

Beat me to it, Verell is the man for this stuff.

    Oh and,

Welcome to FerrariChat and welcome to the 348 Brotherhood.

As for the fuse, yes there is. It's located in the trunk. Remove the cover for the fuse box and it will have a diagram of the fuse locations on the underside.

I like to think of it more like a muscle that has to be torn down a bit before it will grow stronger than ever before :) After this major service and general freshening, she will be the uber Ferrari. MY über Ferrari, anyway!

Yea, but $600+ for this repair is just STUPID money... i'm sorry.

When my left turn signal stopped locking into position, I bought a minty used one on ebay for $350. I opened up the turn signal of the old one to investigate... what I found is there are 2 little round plastic cogs in there that wear down over time. They are like a 1/8" thick plastic washer that is about 1/4" in diameter, and are worth less than a penny. if you could somehow replicate those from one of your kid's necklace beads or something like that, you can fix the turn signals yourself for about a nickel!!

If anyone wants to take on fixing their own headlight and/or wiper switch, i'll sell my old one (which only has a left turn signal issue) for $250, just PM me.

We weren't talking about the turn stalk, but a headlight stalk that pulled out of the switch. This is always due to the light colored cam breaking. Requiring replacing the cam that is molded onto the the headlight stalk inside the black yoke. As you can see from the picture we aren't talking about a couple of "little round plastic cogs".

It was about 5 or 6 hours work to drill out the rivits, clean everything up, cast the new cam & yoke, & reassemble the switch. This doesn't count the 8 to 12 or more hours it took me to make multiple molds & cast 4 or 5 different cams & yokes before I came up with a system that worked.

Yes, if you can cannabilize a good stalk/cam & yoke assembly from a used switch, you might be able to do it cheaper. Just make sure that the replacement stalk's cam isn't already developing small cracks. Going to be hard to see them tho as the cam is permanently inside the black yoke:
