Several threads on gearbox issues. Also many threads on electrical issues that may stem from the Delco alternators crapping out or the quick-disconnect battery lines. Some people say having a single timing belt is an issue, but if a belt breaks it is going to be a costly adventure regardless of being a single or dual belt engine.

All new owners, like me, should check out the 348 Primer. Have you read through that? Seriously, you wont even know how to properly start your car until you do - a must read! Welcome to the Brotherhood!
Here's Nodoubt's links: (if links are dead, do a search) good luck!

Make sure you know how to check the engine oil level correcty, or you will overfill it and cause an unnecessary problem.

Don't drive with the handbrake on.

Make sure your lug bolts are properly torqued.

    Have fun!

    A/C fuse
Door harness wires to pins breaking
    Cat ECU's
    O2 sensors
Tar like film on interior trim pieces
    Slow windows

A few that come to mind -
the A/C fuse & door harness I would check ASAP. Fold the rubber boot back in the door jamb to see terminations-

    Good Luck enjoy her!

Turn signal position locking mechanism wears out.

Recirc flap acuator pin breaks. (on 355's too)

I disagree on the valve guide problem... thats much more of a 355 issue.

One person I Know has tracked the hell outa his 348 and no major issues... Another garage queen has valve issues yes they exist on 348's.

My car has at least 65,000 miles and maybe as many as 90,000. The interior is a bit ratty with the carpets worn quite a bit. The engine runs perfectly - burns nearly no oil at all. The garage queens are for fools. The previous owner from me had gotten discouraged or whatever and, I am pretty sure, had not been driving the car in the last year or so. I repaired some of the things he had let go, am working on the rest, drive her every day, and she has gotten much, much better about not being flaky.

Well, at least as a TR owner you may find the 348 cheap. ;)
