I have so enjoyed reading the accounts of people just receiving their cars and the elation/disbelief they feel, the trips to the garage to stare and confirm that it actually happened, etc., because I have felt all of those same things since picking mine up early this year. Classic red/tan/manual, my first one after looking and being on this site for about a year. Car was very nice and is more so after some anal retentive detailing, but it does suffer from sticky switches. I bought a workshop manual and have successfully removed and cleaned some easy pieces and will send some to Sticky-No-More, but have run into a road block on the steering column covers. Any DIYers faced this? Manual, in section on instrument panel removal says to remove airbag and steering wheel and then covers, but there doesn't seem to be enough clearance to get them out past the ignition switch (upper) or lower dash (lower). So my shiny new toy is partially disassembled out in the garage. Any voices of experience? Thanks!

You need to release the metal plate on the left side of the sterring column that limits the how far the column can drop via the lever. Once you remove the 8 or 10mm bolt the whole column can drop down far enough to remove the top cover. Once the top cover is removed you can lift the column to its highest point and remove the lower section.

Thanks for the reply. Can you get to that without removing the lower dash - and will the column go any lower without removing the lower dash?
