I finnaly just purchased my first Ferrari, a 2000 Euro 360 black/tan with manual tranny and a Capristo single sound exhaust. As wonderful as the Capristo sounds, it gets annoying when driving between 2000 and 2500 rpms. I can even ride around my town and set off car alarms as I drive through the squares of downtown Savannah. Anyhow, a friend gave me his stock exhaust that came off one his 360's. Will I regret installing the stock pipes or should I just put up with the drone???

does your car have the cats in place, or is it cat delete as well?

My 360 manual, daily driver, has tubi cat delete pipes, and tubi rear, with no valves. I love the sound...... :D Better than my Gallardo and F430! :D

Shift down a couple of gears. It won't be any quieter, but at least it won't be a drone. ;)

Rookie.. Fill out your profile with something.. Otherwise we feel like we are being used like whores..

    1. A Ferrari is never too loud - Shame on you

    2. Capristo sounds super ripe - Whats wrong with you..

    3. In time you will no longer hear the drone - You will learn to love it..

    4. Annoying? No my friend she is singing.. The alarms going off is the applause

    5. Going back to stock would be a total crime.. Ferrari's need to breath..

In conclusion.. Put up with the drone or keep RPM higher then 2500.. Yes.. instead of riding around in 3rd at 2000 rpm.. stay in 2nd at 2500 and have fun for gods sake.. If your on the highway.. Instead of 6th at 2500 stay in 5th at 3300 if your going to put put around (please dont put put around) That will solve the problem... You may set off more alarms but hey.. ITS A FERRARI.. You want quiet buy a Porsche.. :)

i've never understood why there is so much love for LOUD exhausts. I looked at a 430 with a tubi gtc and it was horrible.

The stock 360 pipes are plenty loud and sound fine. Regular tubi or capristos are good too

I learned to love the drone spot. You have two choices: You can decide to "use it" to warn Corvettes and Porsches and Audi's and Ricers, etc. that you are coming and they need to stand down because you are about to occupy and command the immediate space as you parade by.

    or...

You can press the gas a fraction more and pass through that sound zone and on to a more pleasant place.

I have a Murcielago Roadster that had the SP Stage 2 exhaust (no cats, tiny muffler).

The drone really annoyed me on highways, and I always felt bad leaving early in the mornings or coming home late. The large fuss when taking off from a start, esp in traffic was also silly.

Swapped back to the stock muffler recently -- enjoy the car much more now.

It's your car -- if the drone bothers you, change it...

I have the Capistro twin-sound...LOVE IT but to be fair, its a waste of money, I NEVER open the valves with the remote. Of course the car opens the valves when it needs to and that sounds like heaven opened up and its incredible but rest of the time its nice and quiet.

Maybe you can get the valves fitted from the twin-sound to quieten your car, call Capistro they are very helpful.

Mr. Chairman, thanks for the scolding. I think I will keep it just like it is and see just how many alarms I can set off. And I might add, I do have multiple Porsches to choose from when I want quiet

That's what I do. Shift down a gear, keep it over 3,000 and it gets rid of the drone.

A stock 360 exhaust is WAY too quiet. More so than almost any other Ferrari stock exhaust and certainly the quietest of all the mid engined V-8s.

I installed the factory valved tips on my Tubi (which sits behind tubi headers and kinetix cats). It doesn't make it silent by any stretch but did bring the noise down at lower rpm. It might help with resonance for you too. The Capristo I've seen looked like it had the same mounting location for the exhaust tips so you might be able to do the same.

If Capristo made a twin sound that changed from stage 1 to stage 2, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Ah you bought the 360 that was in craigslist a month or so I presume.. congrats!

If you bring it up here to Charleston to Karls.. stop by C+C. I have the stock on mine and its quiet. Wife won't let me switch as she says it "sounds civilized". \

    Congrats.

What is the twin-sound then ? its pretty quiet when the valves are closed and not too loud when they are open, I think it is 1-2 but I don't know for sure. Next time I am up in the bay area, i will let you know and drive by.

Not a unique problem to swapping exhaust on Ferrari, this happens on most makes of cars when you take out the stock exhaust. The stock exhausts usually have extra baffling or something in the design to reduce exhaust noise. Aftermarket exhausts that are free-er breathing tend to suffer from drone problems at low RPMs, but some brands have it much more than others. The most annoying thing can be having to hear a really loud drone when cruising on the freeway in top gear at low RPM, because you are stuck with the sound for as long as you are forced to drive the speed limit.

Not sure about the Capristo, but the Tubi exhaust doesn't really have any of the dreaded 2K RPM drone zone issues. I love my Tubi, it's more aggressive sounding than stock but not obnoxious when you are doing normal driving. Would recommend it as a great upgrade for those that want a 'livable' exhaust upgrade.

My capristo has a drone at around 2500. That is third gear at 25 mph which is not the ideal gear for this speed. If I am lazy and need to slow down due to traffic and don't shift I find myself being louder than I want to be in a quiet zone. The fix is easy enough.
