What have I gotten myself into ? Is there anything ,specificly, that I should look out for ? I have a Daytona and a 400i which I do most of my own work on. In the past I have had a 330 and a 328. Ideas ?
Congratulations and welcome to the club. Post some pics when you get a chance. I would replace all water hoses if there is no history of same done recently. I had problems with various hoses blowing when I bought mine
Well done,Id look at the alloy water pipes if tired replace with stainless steel ones.I think the secret to these cars is to drive them often.
You've gotten yourself into the finest Ferrari ever made. Just look out for anything taller than two inches on the roadway.
Wow. Where did you find it? I hope to own a carb boxer of some kind someday - prefer a 365 version but very tough to find.
dr.mike - welcome to the brotherhood! Now go have your exhaust valves inspected and if they are original, have them changed out to either solid stainless steel or titanium sodium filled. Other than that, all the normal hoses and belts stuff! Don't take the exhaust valve suggestion lightly! Trust me.... DMAX
The engine has been rebuilt. I will look through the papers to see what was done with the exhaust valves. Thanks for the tip. I am having all the belts and hoses replaced. No pics yet. I wil probably get to take some on Saturday. No, it's not the blue one. It is a white one which currently has a Koenig ground effects kit on it. I am sending it to Las Vegas to have my body man remove all of that and strip it down to bare metal. It will be re-painted per the original boxer pattern in silver. Fortunatly, I got all of the original bits to put everything back to stock.
What have you gotten yourself into? A love/hate relationship, and for me that best describes ferrari ownership whether its a boxer, a 360 or a 308.
The pics didn't turn turn out too well. I guess the sun was too bright for the cam settings. It looks like the driving lights were removed. But they are there. I will try again tomorrow. After that, it is on it's way to Las Vegas to have the Koenig body kit removed and be re-painted. I have all the pieces to put it back to stock, including the triple outlet exhaust. Thanks to Tom Shaughnessy for finding it for me and helping get it up on the trailer. It doesnt look that bad with the Koenig body kit and in white . Very race car look . Will it have the 6 tail lights as well ?
Yep it will have the 6 tail lights/reflectors, original wheels, mirrors, gas cap/door, etc. And be painted silver/black.
Bits and goodies... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't know how long it will take to finish it. Maybe 6 months or so. BTW to other boxer owners.... Is that REALLY all the A/C puts out ????
ahh, thought I'd seen your car before. Here it is in Monterey 2004 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thankyou for sharing photos. What colour when new? and will you keep the white,ps my 512 is white and it carries the colour fine regards Rob.
Thanks for the pictures! I really like the car as is, and think it would look even better silver/black, with some matching silver wheels! As for the AC, definitely not one of the Boxers strong points, but it can be made better by having them clean both the condenser and the evaporator, evacuate and recharge the system and check the compressor for proper operating pressures. At that point it should keep you cool enough except on really hot days, when you need it the most! Great car, and dont worry, youre going to love it! John
