Hi all, I just collected my late 2012 red 458 spider which is pretty much the best car I've driven. I do have some questions though as my 3 year warranty expired one week after I picked up the car.

I find the air conditioning fan extremely loud, even on low settings. It is as if there is something blocking the air vents but have made sure this is not the case. Am I the only one with a dodgy air conditioning?

Above the dashboard, on the ceiling are two white spotlights like some ambient lighting. Mine flickers a lot after starting up the car, and eventually goes off. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks

I had a moth in the HVAC intake that caused the blower motor to become very loud. Easily removed, but the diagnosis was challenging.

The HVAC on the 458 spider is - IMO -- "poor" by design. They made the ducting to the vents smaller than the coupe in the redesign for some engineering reason.

Have the dealer check it but I'm pretty sure you'll hear them say "they are all like that".

You'll also notice that the fan to cool the condenser is a loud high pitched whine. That's normal too, unfortunately.

The flickering is a modual malfunction. The entire unit a over center needs to b replaced. I had same problem with my 13 Spider. Dealer fixed under warranty.

unlike mayor, i do not believe the noise is normal. the dealer should be able to correct as the only noise you should hear is air rushing out.

Just got it fixed at Ferrary Zug, Switzerland. Despite my car just being out of warranty, the very kind service officer fixed it for me for free today, all in 30 minutes. I was so delighted after fearing cost of 2000chf and above. In the meantime, the sales guy took me through a brand new 488 spider, in white. What a car! Seems the Speciale is still the car to buy for resale value though, they have gone up 20% in the past 6 months
