surprised to see a air intake above the rear hunches.. would have thought we had seen the last of these with the new designs on the 458. Size doesnt look 612 or 599 though..
Your'e probably correct, unless it was a early sketch. If the 599 went to a rear engine the rear hunches may be necessary to cool the twelve cylinders.
Why would it have the intakes in the back if it's a front engined car? Maybe for downforce or some brake cooling system?
Jay- Maranellos have one on the port side for the transaxle cooler. Not that big, though. Taz Terry Phillips
That was a design concept made by a University or a design school or something like that. It already is a few years old and it´s not even made by Ferrari or Pininfarina, so I guess that the new 612 won´t look like that.
Fair enough - as the door hardly lends itself to a 4 seater. The rear does lend itself to a hatch in the rear.
based on the info so far..ie long headlights ala 458...possible hatch rear...there is a great chance that this is the 612 replacement..we can guess what it looks like underneath http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qbuiw9vkeQ
This was a "Dino" concept design done a few years ago by Ugur Sahin. Check iTunes, it was in several of the video podcasts, search Ferrari Concept
Here is a test mule 612. May have awd on demand and kehrs! found these on team speed dot com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There's a thread on this already, with the same pics... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290783
Seems like it could still be a bit small when you remove all of the body panel camoflauge, but who knows. IMO it looks like it has the same exact headlights as the 458 Italia, so maybe it is something, but it could be used to just test different applications that could appear on the 612 as you said, AWD, etc..
A new video off a prototype on here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-f0fdtUg6w&feature=player_embedded Xander
For what one pays for the current 612 it is under powered and Lacks the sex appeal of it's siblings Let's hope they correct these deficiencies otherwise it will fail again
Sounded like 12 cylinders and a dual clutch box. I guess the latter was a given. It sounds pretty nice, I'm sure going to miss the 612 body though, it's just so beautiful
They should have done an 612M refresh with some updated body panels*, tweaked interior and the 599 engine. *Especially the tail area, trunk lid, etc. Needs more shape and edges. Frankly, the tail should have been what the Alfa 8C came out with...
Ryan- The 2008 OTO was the mid-model update. 599 clutch, new gearbox, mildly souped up engine, mannetino, Superfast F1 system, cosmetic changes. The 612 replacement will have many more updates and an architecture one generation ahead of the 599, likely to include direct injection and dual clutch. Should be a real mover. Taz Terry Phillips
Does anyone believe that there is a possibility of a future 612 convertible? I can see myself growing out of the 430 spider with age. The bentley GTC is a great car, just a little large. The Maserati Gran Turismo is nice ,but its just not a Ferrari. I think it would be a great family all purpose specialty car.
Jas- The 612 was not a failure and I can guarantee Ferrari made money on every one they sold to hundreds of happy owners. Most of the development costs went into a new longer wheelbase chassis with updated suspension (used on the 599) and a modern cabin, since the early drivetrains were adopted from the 575M. The 612 was an evolutionary success and the drivetrain will be the target for the 612 replacement. Maserati is having great success with their four seat convertible, so who knows? Taz Terry Phillips
