for a 130K car this thing is going to be a beast on the track ! http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=186713&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1&nt=2 Image Unavailable, Please Login

Now, I really don't like to be a follower, so in the past I would've said something like "I'd never buy a new Porsche." However, this car rubs m the right way. 502lb-ft? There's some torque! Also, there will be some tuners who figure out how to run the existing equipment way harder with simple changes in the 1's and 0's inside the existing computers. Very cool car.
No, no, no. For one thing, it costs nearly twice as much and is probably slower around a track. The Corvette is and always will be less luxurious, less exclusive and less prestigious. Comparisons will be made, but few people should be cross-shopping.
Yes, but they are probably holding back for mid-model updates and x50/GT2 type developments. The last Turbo could make over 600hp with without too much trouble so there will be plenty more power to come.
I still like the style of the 993 better. On the flipside, this does seem like a good step up from the the 996...I just wish it had more of a whaletale.
I think it will be interesting to see how the new 911 turbo stands up against the new Gallardo SE on and off the track. I know the gallardo is normally aspirated and has more horse power. Does the article state the weight of the P car? I would guess it would be consdierably lighter than the Gallardo.
3400 lbs, I don't think that's lighter. It's a a light luxury coupe. Not a true sports car, IMO. I'd wait for the GT2.
Porsche is always very conservative with HP numbers. The HP numbers they publish are the minimum allowed upon dyno test for the engine to be issued into a passenger car. The average HP is typically a bit more. For example, the 996 GT3 HP was quoted at 380 but most cars actually had around 405. Porsche has treated their HP numbers this way for decades. When the '73 2.7RS Carrera came out they claimed 210hp. Those engines were good for closer to 230 on average. Just typical Porsche. BTW: Ferrari has always been quite the opposite in its approach to publishing HP numbers! Terry
Nah, the Z06 may be faster around a track but anyone looking for anything more (that can afford it) will go for the TT. The Carreras are some of if not the best daily driving cars in the world, for those with the cash, that is. A TT is no different, just a LOT faster!
Its crazy that Porsche can pull more torque out of a 3.6 liter 6 than Chevy can pull out of a 7 liter v-8. One thing for sure is the thing wont be slow.
thats great... want to race the 2? If needed, GM could put down much bigger #s and they likly will with the upcoming supercharged vette... last i heard it should have around 600hp from a roots blower which means a lot more torque as well
