i am thinking of buying a new 911 turbo sometime after the first of the year. i know the new 991 is coming out later in the year. i think i actually like the styling of the 2012 models better. (the 991 is said to be longer, wider etc. ) as i am not ready to buy right away, my question is, will the 2013 models still be the same as the 2012 until the 991 is released ? put another way , would i be able to go to a dealer in feb. and order my colors etc. and have the current 2012 style ? any input appreciated. thanks, dan

If I were you, I would wait for the 991 Turbo. It's going to be a way better and superior car over the 997.2 in every single way I would say.

Take a test drive in a 991 Carrera and see the difference between both cars. The interior quality, steering, brakes, transmission, the overall performance and experience are going to be way above and beyond what a 997.2 Turbo could deliver.

Remember, the 991 Turbo is going to adopt a lot of new technology from the 918 and one of the most interesting ones is the Four Wheel Steering.

Anyway, good luck - You won't go wrong with either one! :)

I would wait as well. You don't know what it will exactly look like, so waiting would be a good idea.

    I've driven 997 variants and 991s. I drove a 991 manual base Carrera and a 991 PDK Carrera S.

The 997 is a great car. The 991 is better.

Similar to the 430 to 458. The 430 is an amazing car, but the italia is better in almost every way. Not opinion, but fact.

Unless you have a serious itch at the moment try and hold out.

If you really want a Turbo now, buy used. You can get a nice, low miles one for pretty cheap.

If you want a turbo, wait for the 991. I have 11k+ miles on my 991C2S w/7mt and it is the best Porsche I have ever owned. FYI, I bought my 991C2S after testing driving a used 997turbo...the non-turbo 991 is better than the 997turbo IMHO.

I do not believe you can "get" a new 997 Turbo...I held a deposit and an allocation for a 2012 Turbo S, according to the dealer one of the last they would ever get. This was about 11 months ago...

997 Turbo S is incredible in all dimensions. In the end, we decided to go for a 458 Coupe, which we found even better in all dimensions (other than being able to remain somewhat subtle and that small matter of price).

There are some phenomenal used 997 Turbo's out there at good prices, friend of mine just picked up a gem as his DD. Would suggest 1) try and find a Turbo S....much better and ultimate version of the 997 and, 2) contrary to others here, my Porsche experience has taught me to wait for each new model to evolve a bit, Porsche does a lot of iterative development.

So, if you want/need a 991 Turbo right now, by all means go do it. If you can be more relaxed on the timing, grab a 997 Turbo S and wait for the 991 to season a bit. Just my $0.02.

I don't think you can even order a 997 turbo any longer, Even if you could, you'd probably take a huge financial bath when the 991 turbo comes out shortly. I have a friend that bought a preowned 997 turbo yesterday and was appalled at how "little" he paid for it.

when exactly is the new 991 Turbo expected to hit the streets? what sort of price are we talking?

how much can a 2012 997.2 TT S (with less than 5-10k miles) be had for these days?

to clarify, the allocation I held (and released) was for an April 2012 delivery....I even got a "we're serious, this is the last chance...." call or two.

A quick glance around, seems asking prices $120-140K depending on miles. Our spec was around $175K new IIRC. Great car.

Buy a used 997.2 Turbo if you want one after the new year. The new Turbo is probably a year away only so if you order a new one, you will get killed in depreciation.

+1. Probably what I would do. Unless you want the latest and greatest at its launch.

I am thinking of the 991 GT3, or RS, which is not scheduled for US delivery until 2014. My thought is to buy a used 997 RS, keep it a year, and probably buy a 991 several months after its availability.

    I loved the 997...
until I had the new 991 for two weeks in France last Summer.
The new car is a game changer.

Ditto, it feels like it evolved by 2 generations not 1.

I couldn't say it any better, it was like the 997 S was to the 996 Turbo when the 997 came out, but in this case it is even a better jump. In four (4) days of ownership, I am so completely in love with my 991, that I would be happy to keep this as my only car.

I need to try a 991. On paper, if I wanted a late model forced induction Porsche, I'd say 2008 GT2

thanks to all who responded to my original question. many good thoughts on the subject. after posting i found out that it may be a year for the 991 turbo. i was planning to wait until after the first of the year to make a move . i mentioned that i liked the styling of the 997. it became apparent that there were very few new turbos available either 2012 or 2013. next to none in my choice or guards red with black interior (red stitching ) so when i found a coupe available in s. cal. that fit the bill i went ahead. should arrive in the next couple of days. happy new year. dan

indeed, the 2013 turbo has the exact same body style as the 2012.
my partner ordered a 2013 turbo-s cab in jan, 2012 but was ticked off, as it arrive in the dealership in sept, 2012.
    he refused delivery.
it is black/black with a red interior.
the vehicle is sitting in the showroom of fred lavery, in birmigham, michigan.
if you are interested in this car, pm me and i will tell you which salesman to use to get the best deal.
