my guess is you paid low $150s on the car (?)--anything lower was a great deal. A car touched by the press can be an issue as these are dog miles (50 miles of wear of each mile driven)

my guess is they will continue to depreciate at a far faster rate than the 360s
(I am on my second 360 now--a spyder vs my earlier coupe)

at the same time, i think the car is great. I drove a stick on the street and another on the track with e-gear. I was driving a number of other cars on the track on the same days, including the murcielago and found the gallardo quicker and more fun than its big brother ---which only had the edge on the straights.

I rode shotgun in a murcielago on Pocono with one banked turn + infield circuit. On that stretch the big machine was great.

It was also interesting to compare the gallardo to the Stradale, head to head. I gave the edge to the gallardo. It had superior torque throughout the range and the four wheel drive was great. the handling was very predictable vs the stradale which felt a bit twitchy to me. needless to say, both were a blast. The 430, which I await, but have not driven, should change the edge.

On the other hand, I spent a fair amount of time driving the enzo--which is a whole other story.....

    Good luck with your car.

I think you are right on the depriciation and analysis...

You are a little incorrect on the price - you would need to go lower to be where I got the car from a price stand point. Again - had a great connection with the dealer - so that is worth a nice discount :)... Again - I think it was the best deal that I could hope based on any (with many many miles) that I have seen on the market - and even if they go from the low 150's to the low 140's in the next 6 months or so - with the deal I got - I will still feel pretty good about it. Again - I think for the dollar - this is the best deal on the market. I am also in agreement that when I can get a chance to look at the 430 - I will do so - and in a few years may be my next purchase.

    Good thoughts!

RIch--I suggest you get your radar soon too as the car gets to speed a lot faster than your 355!

I am now debating the same thing - do I go for a built in K40 or other - or just do a nice wireless Passport or wired V1... My 355 had the K40 and the Laser Bliners - the Blinders worked really really well - save me a few times..

Ahh Maybe I will just abide by the posted speed limits - thus not needing any defensive counter measures....

errr - I am going out tomorrow to get something :)

PS. I am officially a Lambo guy now (or for the time being) - I have updated my Avitar... Pic from the car cover emblem...

I'd love to jump into a Murci, but it isn't the right time for me to get one yet Richard. Plus you can imagine the havoc the pot-holed streets of New York City would cause that low-rider! The car du jour is the new Porsche 997 C2S. Yes, I know it's a Porsche. Yes I know it's new and I'll lose a good amount in "new car" depreciation, but I like the shape compared to the 996's, and think it's a fun car for the money.

The reason I'm not keeping both the Ferrari and the Porsche is the largely due to the limited time I have to drive these cars, as well as the insane cost of parking and insurance in New York. I've been pretty good about holding off on buying the C2S until I sell the 355, although I must admit I'm somewhat incentivized by the tax benefit I'm getting by running the purchase and sale through the dealer. We'll see how long that lasts. - ;)

The good news is that I trade in and out of these cars quite a bit Richard, and I'm sure I'll be back to Los Italianos in short order. A 360? A F430? A Murcie? Who knows. Watch this space!

The car is a BEAST. I haven't noticed any active F-Chatters post that they've acquired one. I'm curious to get a report by somebody that has put some miles on one. The cars are still commanding $50K - $75k premiums. Once the cost gets closer to MSRP, I think you'll see the some of us bite.

On radar, get a V1 hardwired, and a Lidatek jammer installed up front. The combination would be lethal!

    G,

The C2S is a great car - I honestly think that for the absolute dependablity, performance, and every day driver (for the most part) - the Porsche is the best way to go. I have a few friends with the GT2 and GT3 and they are awesome as well. My wife absolutely liked my porsches the best when I had them - I had first a 1979 911 SC, Then a 1994 968 Cab (still one of my favorite cars believe it or not - just great looks), and then a 1996 911.

I cannot imagine the cost (as you mentioned) in NY. I just moved to Cincy from Chicago a few years ago - and I know it was bad there - I lived 2 blocks from Wrigley Field - I had a 2 car garage - but 3 cars - Parking for that daily driver on the street was horrible and my insurance was even worse all around. The pot holes were bad - but not as much as I have seen in NY/NJ.

As much as people talk and I included - about depriciation... That is really about 5th on my list of concerns. I would buy want I like anyway - hell I just bought a Jag for my daily driver - you wanna talk about depriciation - It is 3 months old and I probably couldn't give it away now :)

I am in NJ (Roseland) and NYC a lot - my company is headquarterd in Roseland. I will pop you an e-mail next time I am coming up and we can partake in a few pilsners :)

Ps. If you live in Cincy - you could have unlimited number of garages - I think the average around here is 4 or 5 car garages - and insure 4 cars a house and valuables for under 1.5K per year :) Yet you would miss the fine dining, nightlife, plays, operas, manhattan, etc... Ok never mind.. Darn now I miss Chicago now - Dough!

    Take care,
    Rich

Looks great in silver , nice new addition! Can't wait to see it up close at one of the local events. I've seen a yellow Gallardo running around the area too.

On a side note, I moved here from Chicago (NW 'burbs) about 7 years ago , I really miss the food more then anything (Hot Dogs , Lou Malnatis pizza.....). Someone needs to open up a Portillos around here.

I don't talk to you for a few weeks and you go to the dark side. I really thought we would have matching 360's this year. Just kidding. Seriously, congrats on the new car. My 360 is up at NJB and I've got the fever bad. I have to go get it soon. Let me know if you are interested in a high speed run. Robert

    That is a stunning Lambo!

I am normally into the older F cars, I run a 328 and 246 in the UK. The styling of the 360 has never sat well with me, the 355 is just so beautiful in comparison. But as far as modern cars go my money would have to be in a silver Gallardo. Stunning absolutley stunning. I'll have to keep an eye on the UK prices, they are tumbling, and shift a few from my current stable to squeeze one in.

Thanks for sharing they are great pictures!

  24. I was going to ask how are the brakes on the Gallardo compared to the 355. ? I hear the Gallardo brakes are tremendous in stopping powerd. I know there is a 10 year difference in time between the two but just want to get your opinion since you own both.

I was going to mention this very thing in my first post - but forgot to mention it... The Break Calipers measure 14 inches... And let me tell you - you will be pulled out of your skin with these things... By far the best breaking I have seen on a car minus the Carrera GT, Enzo and Murci.

I would say that the difference in breaking from the 355 is night and day - mainly due to the years and probably some of the technologies employed now versus 10 years ago...

I had a few more chances this weekend to drive her - Robert (posted above) also took her out for a spin.

You know how it is when you first get a new car - got to get the feel of her, the nuances, etc. So my initial impressions - without really knowing her and the limits, etc. - this thing is a beast but with control (ala 4 WD) and comfortable - (ala Audi).

The other thing that I have found with it - is how relatively quiet it is at idle and low RPM (enough to not bother any of my neighbors) - and how loud (barking to raise the dead) it is when you get on it above 4K rpm...

The other thing is the pitch of the exhaust note - where the ferrari (8 cyliners) have that high screech F1 type note. The Gallardo has more of a lower grumble pitch of a note - both very distinctive and nice to hear :)

    Rich
