Anyone who watched the Super Bowl yesterday saw a teaser ad for the new VW Beetle which is being redesigned to be more "Macho". Will it work? Has the Beetle been too damaged as a girly car for guys to accept this? I'm curious what you guys think.
I dont understand why the would do that. Bad business move. The New Beetle appeals strongly to its core audience...sure sales may have slowed but thats because they havent updated it, not because the customer base has disappeared. All they will succeed in doing is making something no one loves.
The new beetle coming out is kind of cool looking. Lower roof line and stretched a bit. Brings up memories of a 356 P car.
And you know the Turbo version will have some hype, and marketing aimed at the Cooper. I really think the FIAT 500 will be the new "in" car. Fat-Beetle, choke on failure.
Pics for those that haven't seen it: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-volkswagen-beetle-spy-shots/#3824658 I see some Audi TT in it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The unfortunate offspring of the TT & PT Cruiser. If they delete the flower vase, it instantly becomes more macho no matter what the hell it looks like.
After seeing the 'Rally Beetle' commercial, I think they ought give us some and a budget to go rallyracing with. 4 VWs @ Dakar and 3 VWs @ Pikes Peak several years ago, none remotely similar to what they are selling, doesn't want to make me want to go out and buy one.
Front wheel cap has fallen off. A VW through and through . Tough sell, it'll capture a few old New Beetle mavens but I'll bet more than a few will have moved on. New sales in NA will come from the Mini/Cinquecento crowd and this one doesn't have an ounce of the appeal its predecessor had. Oprah giveaway voodoo strikes again
I'd like to see one in person before I say that I do/don't like it. I don't think it looks bad in the commercial or pictures, but on the road it may be a different story.
