So I finally replaced my original Sony Blu Ray player with a new one from LG (BD590) Besides outstanding DVD performance, it connects to the internet for Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Pandora, Picassa, and a few more services. We spent a night looking up funny videos on Youtube, music on Pandora, and doing searches for random pictures on Picassa. Instant download on Netflix is amazing (well, I tired wireless and it wasn't so amazing, hooked up hardwire through house powerlines (Linksys PLK300) and then it was amazing) being able to instantly scroll around and click on a movie. What a wonderful toy.
Well I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Our LG B300 was a gift a couple of year's ago, and we were thrilled to be able to stream Netflix, etc. Then, it just stopped powering up. A trip to the store it came from said, "yes, it's under warranty, but we charge shipping $75 to and $75 from the service dept." (Best Buy, the service rep was openly apologetic for such a policy) Not a fan of supporting this kind of thing, I had a local shop repair it on my dime. It worked for a few more months, then one by one: stopped playing Netflix; stopped playing Blu Ray; stopped playing our old standard DVDs. Needless to say not a thrilling ownership experience. Having said that, it could be any manufacturer. Going through the forums of electronics, each major brand (Sony, Samsung, LG, etc) has got some complaints against it. Our Samsung TV has been a rock solid appliance, I'll get another. Now, I'm not sure what brand go for to get back on Netflix streaming and Blu Ray. Any opinions?
I like the panasonic DMP-BD85K. Not a fan of netflix, but the panny has amazon on demand which I prefer since it doesn't require a subscription, has the latest movies (including blue-ray), and the user interface is much much better (can anyone even see those netflix images without a pair of binoculars)? Also if you purchase a movie (for ship) with Amazon, you can watch it streaming for free. The new panny has full 3D, not sure if I need that yet but they are really aggressive in having the latest/greatest features. The IR sensor went out on my LG. Its been relegated to the guest bedroom ..
