Saw a new convertible 6 series on the road recently, I think it looks like an overweight pig. The hood, fenders, rear end just looked massive overall. Cannot believe how far BMW has stray from the simplistic no-nonsense design that established the brand. Even the BMW roundel on the rear trunk looked quite garish in design.

Give me an old 6 or 8 series anyday.

    I agree. It's hideous.

The Z8 is the last modern BMW design I've really liked.

I don't mind the 6, but I must agree with your overall assessment of the brand. They have become over-gadgeted, over weight, over priced, under reliable. The competition (Infiniti) is rapidly closing the gap simply because they have copied BMW's old formula, which they for some reason have abandoned.

Hopefully the new generation of ///M cars will get them back on track, but even still the theme remains the same-- bigger, heavier, uglier. Long gone are the days of the E30 M3.

I actually like it a lot ( the dash is ugly though ) . Not beautiful , but something that makes me want to look and look ..Very interesting design.

    And the M6 in black..is like a shark !

No, a Maranello is like a shark.

I saw one similiar to what you described and it looked fantastic. This also applies to the E65 7er. Both of those basically only look good in that form imo.

I am so confused by the reactions to new BMW's. I think the last generation 5 series was awesome looking. I liked the E46 3-series (bought one). I saw a new 3 series today and I thought it looked really nice. I thought the brand new 5 series was OK but its growing on me. I've seen a few 7-series that I think look hot. The 745 looks great with the big wheels and slight tinted windows. I think its worlds better than the previous 7 series. As for the 6 series, the convertible doesnt do much for me but the coupe looks great... white with tinted windows and 19" wheels is hot!

I liked BMWs before - the 8 series was probably the nicest looking. I also really like the current M3.

On another note, if you go to MBUSA's website, every model looks identical just slightly larger. Go to the model selector and you will see how similar they all are.

When I look at the new 6 series all I can think is bling bling pimp mobile.

Do think the latest MB and BMW creations are quite bland aesthethically. It is sad how most MB models do look alike. The new S class looks a bit too busy. I do like the MB CLS though, that's quite an avant garde design done right.

What to buy? Audi? Bring back chrome bumpers!!

I saw something very similar up here recently. Car looked half-decent for the new BMWs. Only in that color and with black wheels would I own one, and just barely. This combo is also the best looking E65 though you couldn't give me one of those.

It doesn't look bad in that champagne/silver-ish color on the 'vert. I've seen more interesting interiors in a Lexus though.

Give me a Z8 and you can drive all the recent BMW's to the junk yard looks wise. The new 6 looks like a pimped Pontiac, yuck! Now they've gone and made the new 3 look like a Hyundai.

:) They're fine. 8-900 mi on SA. Still like the Maranello better than the SA though. Need the HGTC brakes on it though. You need to go south for winter. Cap D'antibe should suit. Mebbe a Portofino office?
No, me buying an LS430 is. Wait, ummmmm.

It looks like a shark stuffed to the gills. It is such a disgrace to the old 6series.

If I "had" to have one I'd have the convertible....but to tell you the truth....I really dislike both. The coupe's trunk line looks like a DODGE STRATUS from the rear quarters.......

Gawd I love bashing these new BMW's....I feel good inside already....sort of a warm fuzzy feeling like leaking tranny fluid....can we have a weekly thread on this subject ?
