Pretty impressive maneuvers for a commercial aircraft if this size i think .

On a more serious note would the "total control" computers on an airbus allow bank and climbs like this or would the computers think it was out side the flight envelope and limit them. I remember reading somewhere that the AB 320 computers will only allow a bank of 20 degrees...I could be mistaken and letting my "Anti AB" thoughts intrude on reality. I know there are plenty of very smart aviation peep's that read this forum and would love to hear their thoughts on the matter.

I think United is getting some of these early next year. I can't wait to fly one.

It shows that you don't have to pay Farnborough's admission price to get some neat videos! This fellow has some other good YouTube videos from there and from the International Air Tattoo at Fairford. http://www.youtube.com/user/Wonkabar007

I recall that the early A320 crash into the woods was attributed to the aircraft not allowing the pilot to do what he wanted to. Supposedly, Airbus revised the software after that to keep such an event from recurring, but I'm not convinced the problem is fully solved yet.

Anyone else disappointed this thread didn't contain news about Boeing designing a new fighter aircraft?

I think you are referring to this...

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kHa3WNerjU[/ame]

this is why i will go to every possible length to not fly on an airbus.

I nearly caused a riot at LAX a few years back when i refused to board a Virgin Flight to the UK when i realized they where putting us on an A340 instead of the 747 that was planned.. I would not get on so they had to pull luggage etc... Good times, they realized i was serious once i asked the Capitan if he would drive a French car, after his " Hell no " reaction i knew my point had been made. Only been on AA, BA , NZ and United since....

Why do they leave the gear down on these 'aerobatic' flights?

They are light for these flights so power is not an issue, but in a clean configuration they would pick up speed quickly. Pulling power to flight idle would not do enough to slow down. Leaving the gear down creates drag which aids in bleeding speed.

You know how many Airbus planes fly per day? In my airline we only do 1000 sectors per day for the last 20 years with no incident and we only fly airbus. How could the problem not be fully solved.

Would you not buy a 458 still incase it burst into flames, even though that was just a problem at the start of production?

You know Bugatti is a French car maker. And that story sounds made up. I doubt any Captain would say that when you're disparaging the plane he has to fly across the Atlantic.

The normal operational flight profile of an airliner is pretty benign. Structurally even limit load cases are not really that critical. Outside the envelope is where things get interesting, as in the A320 crash in the woods or the A330 crash in the S. Atlantic. Because software was involved in both of these crashes, and software is written by humans, it is clear that all outside the envelope scenarios were not considered. This is why the power of the human mind to develop new solutions in real time will still beat a fixed software algorithm. So while Airbus may have solved, or will solve, the issues impacting prior events what else is still unknown?

Bugatti is not French. (Hasn't been since the 40's when Ettore died.)

It's a GERMAN manufacturer. It's part of the VW/Audi/Porsche/etc. conglomerate.

Shares it's platform with the Audi R8 and Lamborghini.

French cars have a reputation for good handling in Europe, so far as I know. It's stupid to compare cars to planes, even from the same manufacturer, ie. Bristol or Saab. I doubt the poster "made any point."

No Story. If you know LAX terminal 2 you can see the aircraft parked at the gate. As soon as i saw the Airbus i told the lady at the podium i would not be getting on that flight. Requested the later flight which i was informed was the 747, i was at the gate two hours before boarding so did not cause anyone else inconvenience, obviously Virgin wanted to know my reasons why and convince me otherwise, and she told the crew as they boarded and we had some banter-back and forth. Obviously they did not agree with my point of view but where accommodating. I took the later flight and have never flown Virgin Atlantic since (over 10 years now). I will use Virgin Australia when i go to Oz as they fly the triple seven.
I wasn't being disparaging about "his" plane, just everything French in general, as is my way, and NO i would not want to drive a Bugatti even though it is made by VW.
As Darth550 or anyone else who knows me can attest, there is no filter mechanism between my brain and my mouth. You get exactly what im thinking in the politest manner i can.

Enjoy you Airbus all you want, just not my thing Sorry.

You are clearly entitled to do what you want, but it's a strange attitude IMHO. The A340 is, statistically, the safest airliner in the world and has never suffered an accident. Even the A320 - supposedly such a risk to travel on - has a track record of 1 accident per 14 million flying hours. By comparison, a 737 CFMI (-300 -400 -500) suffers 1 accident per 5 million flying hours - or, to put it another way, is nearly 3 times more likely to fall out of the sky. Facts can be quite enlightening. For the record, I will quite happily fly on all these types because the bottom line is that both Airbus and Boeing make tremendously safe aircraft. Now, Tupolev on the other hand...

LOL thats funny about the Tupolev.. I have to apologies if people think I am pro Boeing because of safety records. ( although that certainly helps) I am a mechanic so have a very basic understanding of engineering, and am totally aware that "****" happens to any craft man made.

I just don't like anything French. Period. If i can avoid it i will.

Having said that i have been unfortunate enough to work on French cars every now and then and have experienced how they are put together... and i will not drive one. Sorry.

My family in England get on me constantly about the wings being made in the UK for the airbus, but not only will i not support the French economy over the American , i don't want to fly on anything assembled by the same people who made "Le Car"

Now that Airbus are going to start building planes here, i might change my mind, but now i will have to see if the "vin plate" says assembled in France or US :)

I could go on about France vs America, but you get the drift. BTW, i still call Virgin every time i need to go to the UK just to F with the ticket agents. Like i said i am a cock with no filter between my brain and mouth , i can just imagine the poor girl getting off the call and telling her supervisor, " this guy wont fly on a French built plane" LOL , I know i have convinced a few of them to not fly on the airbus again. hahahaha
