Thought you 612 owners might be interested in how long the 612 has been around. I noted the first owners manuals were published in 2003 and thought that was kind on early. It was not. Here is a technical bulletin showing the 612 received a new rear bumper at Serial Number 136591, Assembly Number 54162. 575M production was still in full swing (last 575M Serial Number 141817, Assembly Number 59570) when this car would have been manufactured in early CY04. It is way earlier than the earliest Superamerica for which I have data, Serial Number 140437 and Assembly Number 57644. This explains why the 612 engine is Type F133F and the Superamerica's engine is Type F133G. Also proves they were building the 575M, 612, and Superamerica simultaneously for a short period of time in CY05.

Incidentally, a friend of mine has the early 612 (not OTO) workshop manual unlocked if someone wants a copy. PM me if interested.

Taz, you are an overwhelming wealth of information. You embody what comprised a majority of this forum when I first joined.

The first official 612 serial number that I have is 134122; I have 87 612 serial numbers that come before 136591. Also, the lowest serial number that I have for a Superamerica is 140357.

Carbon- That would explain the 2003 612 owners manuals. 134122 would have been built in Sep/Oct 2003 and that was before my MY04 575M, 135171, built in Nov 2003.

    This is correct.

I happened to be in Maranello in September 2003 and visited the ferrari shop and museum.

I saw the 612 there on display and at first had no idea what it was.

Got a photo of it up on a stand together with about 5-6 cars in a semi circle somewhere on my pc

Schmick- Would love to see that photo and it pretty much confirms what we were guessing. Could have been one of the preproduction cars, which Ferrari usually brings up to production specs and sells.
