Good morning, I am a new member to this site and have only posted under the New England section with some basic questions on the purchasing of a Ferrari.

The responses to my been questions have been very helpful. Thanks to all that have answered

As mentioned in these earlier posts, my dream has been to have a Ferrari F1 360 Modena 2002 or newer. Red Tan interior.

I am now 54. Blessed with a great wife and life. I am also very well off financially due to my career.

Presently I am working in Saudi Arabia. Living in London and my home is in Maine.

While in London I stopped in one of the Ferrari shops and while there the dealer gave me the impression I was just wasting his time.

I have also sent some emails to dealers in the state requesting additional information on certain Ferraris they have for sale.

No feedback from my emails have been received to date.

I could not imagine what it would take to take one out for a test drive or convince the dealer I am serious about my intent to buy one.

When going to a dealer what is the best way to convince them I am serious about my intent to purchase and not wasting their time.

Any dealerships you would recommend to call or fly to for a visit?

One standard issue with dealers is they are very bad at replying to emails

Another is that an official dealer is not really going to be interested in a 360 customer as its ten years old and not something they would typically stock

(to answer another query there are about a thousand threads about the difference between F1 & manual in the 360 section which also has a good buyers guide)

Are you buying for UK or US use ?

I'm assuming you want to work with an official dealer and not a private dealer. If that is the case---

I can't tell you about foreign dealers but the best way is to go in Maine would be to go on Ferrari.com and search for what you are looking for if you want a used car.

Then, call that dealer and ask to speak with someone in sales about it. It's pretty simple actually.

The other thing you can do is check out the nearest dealer to you, get their contact information from their website, and email someone in sales asking them if they either have a car like what you are looking for or can make an appointment to stop buy and talk to a sales person.

Honestly, I've never had a problem making an appointment to see a dealer. I've usually done this by email as I travel overseas a lot.

Cold case walk in's can be a problem as they already have appointments or deliveries or whatever. It'***** and miss. But, appointments can always be made.

Dealers still sell 360's but inventory is getting low. They sell more F430's and 458's now. But they do have 360's or get them in trade all the time. Dealers don't like to carry "questionable" ones or ones with high mileage but they also charge the most for them. You can get one cheaper at a non-dealership. Cars.com is a good source of cars. Check with CNC in Ontario California also. They have plenty of them all the time.

Hope this helps. Good luck in the search!

Welcome to Ferrari Chat. You work in Saudi Arabia, live in London and your home is in Maine. In which country do you intend to keep and use the car? If not in the UK, I will assume that the dealer in London, as part of the sales qualification process established this and therefore that you would not be buying a car from him. I would only seek information and a test drive from dealers that I would potentially buy from. Good luck in your search.

To answer your question directly: E-mails are a great ice breaker. But nothing beats an actual phone call. Set an appointment and be on time.

" Test Drives " are rare here, but they do happen. The mindset is that a test drive does not sell the car, most clients know what they what when they come in. It's out job to help you get it!

GL with you search and don't hesitate to PM me if I may be of any help,

I have found a number of Ferraris that are pretty close to what I am looking for. I should find the exact one I am looking for shortly with all the help from this website and the dealers forwarded to me by the members.

A few questions that come to mind:

How do you deal with regular maintenance or God forbid you have a break down on a highway and your authorized dealer/ repair company is 100+ miles away?

Are there other owners with this distance problem or have broken down far away from the repair shop? How did you deal with it?

How do you find and authorized 3rd party Ferrari inspector that would go over the car thoroughly before you buy the one you are looking for?

How do you know if he/she is qualified to do the inspection?

How is such an inspection set up when you are buying a car 1,000s of miles away from you?

Example I found one I am very interested in but it is located in Calf and I am in Maine?

Even though you may be buying one directly from a dealer and they say everything is fine is it still recommended that you have this 3rd party one done?

Would the dealership allow this to be done? Inspection of belts? compression tests? Etc..

I travel extensively with my work and only return to the states once or twice a year when I would drive the car

Are there any special storage requirements beside a batter trickler being installed?
Motor start up required ever so often?
Car should be taken out for short drives?
Oil and liquids changed should before or after storage?

During long storage will the engine be damaged when you restart the car due to all the oil dripping back from the cylinders?

Dry out protection for hoses, gaskets, belts, tires?

Do you have better bargaining power by paying cash for the car?

Who would you recommend as a shipper to transport a car across the country?

My questions may sound simple to some but this purchase is all new to me. I guess I am looking for lessons learned or advice from others that have been through the items I am questioning already.

    Thanks for looking.

If you haven't already check out the buyers guide as noted above then spend hours reading this site as all these are normal initial concerns that have been asked and answered repeatedly

I have researched the site for some time but have been unable to find any discussions on

Get AAA and keep your cell phone charged. I got the Premium the day before I picked up my 360. The Plus is good for 100 miles and you get 4 tows a year at that distance. My daughter used AAA one time to get a broken down car from San Francisco to Los Angeles, they would get to the 100 mile mark and the driver would call the next driver and meet at a local gas station. It was a major pain but FREE even if she did use all her tows for the year. You can also get Premium which has a 200 mile tow, plus 3 100 mile tows.

Most I have been from home is 1,100 miles, didn't break down but I would have used AAA as above to get to a dealer or to a safe place for the car and then rented a truck/trailer to get the car to my dealer if there was none around that I would trust (or better yet, gotten home with a rental and got my own truck/trailer). Breaking down is NO FUN at all but its not a disaster, just a inconvinience.

Ask here on Fchat, we will tell who to go to (or is that where to go :) )

you think we would recommend someone who is not qualified ? we love these cars.

Calif. is a big state, you need to be more specific and there are LOTS of places to get a PPI done in Calif.

strictly personal, I bought my 360 from a private party and I did not do a PPI, its all about your comfort level.

Yes and if they don't, find a different car.

Battery maintainer and leave it alone, it will be fine with a 6 month sleep but why not give your wife or kids the key and let them drive it. Both my wife and daughter drive my 360, if the 360 is in the driveway blocking my wife's or daughter's car, they take the 360, the only rule I have, is my daughter can't take the 360 to school, even though my wife works at a local high school and has taken my 360 to work. My daughter can't. Let them drive the car and it will be much happier.

not enough time sitting to really harm the cylinders, but hoses, etc. will age used or unused.

from a dealer highly doubt it, from a private party, it depends on how bad they want to get rid of the car but not likely.

lots of good shippers, but I would do a road trip, I picked up my 360 out of state and drove it home.

Walk into any dealership or high end auto dealer, introduce yourself and let them know you are a serious buyer. You most likely will be treated well.
