The EOS 1Ds mark III has been announced.

    5 (full)FPS @ 21 MP. Yo quiero!

Really, though, I'm thinking about dropping the EOS 5D dream and picking up the new 40D when it comes out. Looks like it should be extremely sharp (twice the pixel density of the 5D... close on par with Nikon's D2X!).

I would do severe mutilation of my...left.....side of my driveway, in order to have a 21mp camera, full frame and all. I have fantasies of getting the 1Ds 16mp camera. A significant investment in camera and then lens.

    Come on lottery!

I'll be very curious to see the actual image tests. 21mp => 80 lp/mm (line pairs per millimeter), which requires an extremely good lens as well as extremely good technique to deliver on a consistent basis. I would bet that in most situations, that amount of resolution is never actually attained.

The 40D looks pretty impressive for the price. It's got a good frame rate, good image size at 10.1 mp and a lot of other nice features carried over from the higher end 1D series. I personally would rather have seen a 1.3x crop factor instead of the 1.6x, fisheye and wide angle lenses lose a lot of thier effect on the 1.6x cameras IMO.

I'd still rather have the 1D MkIII. 10fps and 10.1mp is plenty for me.
