I figured I'd tap the vast knowledge *cough* of F-chat for this question...

In the coming weeks my parents are looking to buy new cars.... two BMW 550's (his and hers I guess) pretty much same configuration

Would asking for a nice BIG discount be a reasonable request if they were to buy both on the same day from the same person?

Or would it be better to not buy both from the same person on the same day?

    Bruce, I think he's talking about the 5.0L 5-series. Previously the 545....

The replacement for the 545i. Slightly more power, updated engine, everything else is the same. Secondly, that is a hell of a lot of car shopping! And third, yes, it's perfectly reasonable to ask for a big chunk, 5-series sales are not the greatest right now, and selling off new models should present a bargaining opportunity. Add the fact that you are buying two, hell I'd demand a HUGE chunk off. This is all form the same person, same time ofcourse.

You should definitely expect a better price if you buy two. The dealership might want to make $5k on a sale and if you buy two they might be very happy to make $7500. I think you have two options: let them know you want to buy two up front ... or negotiate the best possible price on one car and then tell them you will buy it at that negotiated price AND another if they take off $2500 on the second car.

Bruce its the replacement for the 5 series 545

Thank you all for advice, I'll definitly let them know :)

Now that my sister is finally married and settled down, they figure to "reward" themselves with a new car each :)
