Just wanted to see what a new clutch for a 355 is going for these days. I heard the TO bearing is $1700.00 just for the part, is that about right? I was also told it's about a 8 hour job? I also posted this in the tech. Q&A, Thanks for the help.

Dude, stick with Daniel for ALL your Ferrari parts! He is the best in the business!! ;);)

The clutch job does not take around 8 hours to do. This job can be done in less than 2 hours if you are good enough. It took less than 1.5 hours to do the clutch in my 348 2 years ago. That was my first time doing it too. :):)

If you do a search on here, there are some good threads on how to replace the clutch in a 355. You could probably do it yourself, once you see whats involved. :):)

Hey Reg, if you decide to do this yourself, let me know... i'll help you with it if you want, it'll give me some experience before I do my 348 this year. I'm a very skilled mechanic and I have lots of tools n stuff.
Either way, take the advice and get your parts from Ricambi!

I just did my clutch on my F355............. the parts total was just over $1400 and time was 6-7 hours. The reason it took a bit was I had the flywheel surfaced and all 3 bearings replaced (hill throwout too :D) along with all o-rings/seals including the main shaft seal.

The last time it was done, the shop only replaced the pressure plate and disc. No seals were replaced and thats why it had a short life.... :(.

An easy job mate. You will have fun doing it. I was a little worried about it at first, being a Ferrari and all. Once I got into it, it was easy and I learnt a lot about what is involved. Now I can help others with their clutch replacements. :):)

Here are some pics and stories/bullsh*t of my clutch adventure. :):)

Thanks for the offer Steve, but it's already at the mech. I started having problems Sat morning on the fun run threw Lake Mead park to Overton. It really wasn't that bad (I thought) we were about 75% of the way threw the part and I went to pass a truck, I droped it into 3rd hit the gas and watched the RPMs almost red line and the car do nothing. Luckily no one was comming at me in the other lane. After that it was sh*t. It was already scheduled to go in on Mon. for oil change and other maintenance. Just so happens the mech I use was behind me in his lambo.

Its no wonder he drives a Lambo taking 8 hours to do a 355 clutch change. ;);)

    LOL

His Lambo is an early 80s and needs some TLC. Here's a picture.

When I droped it off I asked for worse case. I was told 7-8 hours.

Sorry to see your 355 at Italy Service the other day. Actually, Gary's Countach is a '78 LP400 Low Body. I remember the time he spent researching this car and there was a lot of discussion in the Lambo crowd as to whether it was a '78 or '79. 7-8 hours is probably right to cover anything additional outside of the major pieces (seals, bearrings, etc.). You are in good hands at Italy Service.

They are just off Sahara and Western. So far they have been great!!! I believe there rate is about $25.00 lower than Ferrari.

Yep the red 550 is our new road cruiser. It replaced our Red/Tan F355GTS that you might have seen in the shop about a month ago. The 550 was due for its major service and a couple of other items. Gary and DeShawn are great people and their mechs, Oscar and Cal do good work. They will take good care of your car.

Daniel, could it be he was quoted so high because they are also including the updated bearing housing? I agree he should get the Hill bearing, but even if he got the Ferrari bearing, he would need the updated housing, right? (did Ferrari not discontinue the original style TO bearing?

I agree with Goth, do all the seals, replace all the bearings, resurface the flywheel and repack the flywheel. Do it right so you don't have to redo it a short time later.

As Reg mentioned they are on Western just north of Sahara. Their rates are less than Symbolic and Penske/Wynn and they have a good reputation. Several Ferrari Club members use Italy Service for work. I have also had some work done by Penske/Wynn, you have to balance it out depending on the situation. Both locals have great techs with gobs of experience.

That was a sad time. When you have a chance ask DeShawn or Gary about the funeral. I hope to post it on YouTube soon.
