I am looking to buy a 2004 coupe, the car has about 10% clutch left. Where is a good place to get the clutch done? Dealers? or private shops? I am in the Denver area. What should this cost? Also, is there a way to keep from wearing the clutch so fast? I heard if you use sport mode it would last longer. Thanks

I would call Dave Helms with Scuderia Rampante in Boulder. Stay far away from FOD--not the place to have anything done IMO. They go fishing for things that aren't wrong, and do not perform quality work. If you would like more info, PM me.

I have heard you want to use the sport mode, maintain constant throttle during shifts, use a bit more throttle than you think necessary to get off the line, and let it downshift when coming to a stop. Do some googling, that's what I did. I'm driving an '02 CCS for the moment, the techniques I stated seem to work well with the car--at least it feels like it anyway. FWIW, I have heard clutches last anywhere from 7-35k miles. Everybody seems to have a different answer.

I'm up in Fort Collins BTW. Nice to see another local on here.

    Cheers,
    Ricky

A clutch job in these is not difficult. It's all in the rear. You don't need to pull the engine or remove a lot of stuff.

A good independent can do this job without worry.

There is no way to avoid the clutch wearing fast aside from 1) not driving it in Auto mode and 2) avoid reversing as much as possible or 3) avoid going from a stop up hills or 4) don't drive it in stop and go traffic a lot.

But, aside from 1, you'd say that about a regular clutch too.
