So, the new De Tomaso Deauville has just been presented at the Geneva Show: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/01/de-tomaso-deauville-geneva-2011-detomaso-reveal/ I find it remarkably unremarkable, so I suppose that there is something that I don't seem to grasp about this car. Can anyone enlighten me...?
To sell cars, you need customers and I dont see any customers loyals to them as they have put the fire on all the DT clubs. May be if you are blind
that car is one of the biggest marketing misteps i can remember..it's right up there with the 'new coke'
Let s be clear, I wrote the official book DE Tomaso for the factory. During that time, everybody told me that Santiago was difficult, which was not true, he was very friendly and very helpfull, he open all the doors of the factory. I ve meet the new management of the new DT and that wast my time and money. They get a fight with all DT clubs who really love DT for 40 years. The new people dont understand DT, because if they did, they will never came up with a "Daihatsu/Cadillac/Huyndai" SUV. You can buy a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and they are the king of the road, and they are lovely. Sadly, we may need to wait again with a real fanatic who understand DT to come up with a new Mangusta/Pantera but without the actual management. It s sad but true Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hm,... so, now I'm certainly more enlightened, but nevertheless rather sad... I would be very surprised if they are able to sell many of those cars.
............Agreed, the new Deauville is not what the Pantera owners wanted. But in as much as other large, Euro-luxury SUV models do seem to be selling well, perhaps this first project is a proper one to get the ball rolling. Surely, the publicity for DeTomaso in the last week or so has been enormous with many references to the Pantera. The tie from old to new is in fact being created. And in case you missed it, there was a release that said DT plans to unveil a new Pantera in November of this year at the Los Angeles Auto show -- http://tinyurl.com/New-Pantera-coming-in-November
Not what I expected from the De Tomaso marque to re-enter the market place. Rather disappointed actually. I hope when the Pantera is introduced it is more exciting....
Can someone explain what's been going on? I rarely follow happenings in the De Tomaso world but I'm vaguely aware that there's pressure from the company lately. What's up? What's the argument? What's the rationale? Are they actively trying to shut down DT clubs or organizations?
I am very active in the DeTomaso community and have heard nothing of the sort. (Except what I've read here from one poster) Ron
