Speculation that his new 3 year deal with Merc will be at £40 million per year. Given how dominant the Mercedes is, do we think Lewis is worth £40m a year ?

He must be. It's not like Mercedes didn't have choices.

If I were Lewis or Vettel, I would reach a common agreement and swap teams. Piero Ferrari said in an interview that he really wanted to have Hamilton.

The Tifosi on this F1 forum, would take a knee if that happened.

The question is more: is anyone of them worth 40m? As long as the teams can afford it obviously yes, Seb and Fred are not earning much less I think...

No, not really, in Shumacher or Prost days it was diferent, because teh drive rinput made a lot of diference, guys like Lauda, Piquet, Prost Shummy did very hard work, they were worth both as drivers nd developers....today they only drive, they lack half the skills.

Agree. It's clear that Hamilton struggles with a less than perfect car. For instance, Bottas does better when the Merc has lower grip. The greats like Schumacher and Senna etc could drive a dog through the field of better cars. That said, I think Vettel, Alonso and Verstappen can drive the wheels off almost anything.

He seems to do very well on a wet track, one could consider that a equalizer.

yes, Elton is a good driver in the rain but again he usualy only excell if the car is perfect for those conditions, like he did in Silverstone 2008, we could see in Brazil that year how Vettel was able to beat him in a very inferior car, and even Massa (that so many claime is useless in the rain) was completly unfazed by it. However if Elton as done some very nice races in the rain, he also did plenty of mistakes in the same conditions as for example i can remenber Jean Alesi driving the wheels of that dog of a car 1n 1992 under torrential rain, this is the diference between a true raimaster and a good rain driver. This being said, Elton has obviously a car control above average, so it's normal he would do well under slipery cincunstances.
