I dont like it either. But in all honesty, I can understand the reasons for replacing the old logo are numerous, and a new identity and image is vital if this company is to survive.
Association with the original company De Tomaso, Modena, Spa, would be an asset only I think, in nostalgic and historic terms.
The new logo will in the owners view, help distance the new cars and brand from the negative aspects of the original, and as a serious De Tomaso enthusiast, I would be the first to admit there were many.

Steve, For having worked at one of the (former) big 3 for 20+ years. The main reason I beleive the new owners bought a name was because of the 'name'. So in essence I wouldn't change the logo either. Brand awareness and the history of said brand takes many years to build. My sales counterparts were many times upset or deceived when one of the models were canceled and renamed as it would create confusion with dealer sales staff and consumers. Escort to Festiva to Aspire to Focus to Fiesta compared to a Fseries truck or Ranger or a Mustang or a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis or Thunderbird

The marketing guys would always say we want to create a new image or there were many negative aspects with the last model. I know customer loyalty is sort-of like marriage on 50% survive, but still.

If the Brand was Hispano-Suiza or Cord or Duesenberg or Facel-Vega to pick a few of the more notorious, you would expect to see some form of cue from the former brand and hopefully the model name would be something like a continuation of the the former model names not a bird, or fish or mountain name as it was not part of those brands heritage nomenclature.

Thank the Mustang and Corvette owners as they helped keep their brand alive a few time and today we have amazing bang for the buck in these cars" Now hopefully the new DT
will have the bang of a Lambo or Ferrari or Bugatti at a premuim price yet not astronomical price

my 2c, but hey it's not my company.

It has been "3 models, 8,000 units/year, SUV, Sedan, Coupe, built in the old Pininfarina place" for what, three years now?

I'm anxious to see what they bring to Geneva 2011... if anything...

Why bother buying the name, if you don´t see it as an additional value? It makes no sense what so ever to change the logo. Why re-launch the brand in a segment it has never had any precence? Why no plan for a mid-engine sports car, for which the company is best known of?

I have very little faith in this re-launch. As De Tomaso owner I wish it wasn´t so.

I understand what you are saying Denis, but I doubt that brand loyalty will help this new company very much. There is great enthusiasm for the marque, but it is towards the cars they once made, with the Pantera being the most successful. However, in Europe, the Pantera was a slow seller, mostly the fault of De Tomaso, and in the US it was blighted by problems too.
I am only guessing the new owners strategy as someone who has a marketing education, but I also believe they are wasting, or ignoring, a potentially great asset in De Tomaso. They believe however that it is the right thing to do, to create a viable and profitable business, which is the bottom line.

Sir, in reality, they are not ignoring the Heritage but they are very busy at the present time and will take care of everybody. They fully understand the importance but tell me where they need to start to please the old customers ? So many things to do

I for one and very hopeful they will suceed. I can only imagine what a new Pantera will be like, I hope they hold true to the original. A car that is brutal, primal and with alot of balls. I hope it is not elegant but, rather an egotistical, bloodthirsty brawler like the original. Good luck to them!!! On a side note, I hope they are not stratospheric in price, as I'm going to want one if they get it right but, don't believe in $100-150K new sports cars.

No, they only started saying that this year when the new owners bought the name. You may be remembering years past when Mr. DeTomaso was alive and there was talk of a joint collaboration on an SUV with the Russians. Never happened.

I think 2011 is a very aggressive schedule.

I think they need to be more communicative with the De Tomaso cummunity, there are many clubs who between them can outline what it is about the marque that makes it so special. That is an asset the company can take advantage of free of charge.
If they really do intend to enter the market with a mid engined high performance sports car, they will need to create a car that has the charisma of past models, it will not be good enough just to be technically close to the competition.

Olczyk, what has Peter Arnell to do with De Tomaso? Did he design the new logo?
On the subject of the new owners, they contacted our club, the De Tomaso Drivers Club, looking for sample copies of our magazine and newsletter, their intention was to let us know if we complied with their rules on the use of the company name and logo!!
It was a letter that showed no sense of well wishing on their part to enthusiasts and owners like us.

Yes Arnell design the new logo but I believe that it s only for money that he did it because DT d on t need a new logo. Can you imagine a new Ferrari logo ? Of course not !
DT France receive the same letter, they have burn the bridge with the complet community of De Tomaso. They don t understand that the value of DE Tomaso, it s not Arnell or a new logo, it s all the clubs , collectors, past owners who live, dream about DE Tomaso. The value, it s the heritage and the previous customers.
Read what they say about Arnell on internet, nothings more to say

Any news on the new De Tomaso? BTW not many car company restarts have worked unless they were owned by a large successful car company like VW restarting Bugati or BMW restarting Mini. I think they kept the Bugati logo and the grill shape. Many others have failed like Bizzarrini, Avanti, Shelby even, plus more. It is necessary that they have support of the current owners and enthusiasts.
