Just finished reading another article on 308s in a new Ferrari magazine called Enzo. Across 7 pages, along with the expected stats, the recommendation is to go early, for carb cars, rather than late, for QV or 328. A very nicely photographed vetro accompanies the piece, though the article remarks that corrosion can be worse as it tends to be hidden on these. The rest of the magazine looks interesting enough & I'm at the beach, so it'll get a thorough reading & sandblasting :)

I remember when Car and Driver recommended the opposite back in 1997.

Corrosion is hidden on all 308s. There’s not more hidden on VRs. There’s more you can see on steel cars, that’s all.

That's the point being made. You have to get panels off the vetro to see it, so it tends to stay hidden and get worse.

Shoot I remember certain very well-known experts telling people to absolutely stay-away-at-all-costs any carbureted 308 and especially carbureted Boxers

Maybe the tide of opinion is turning to vintage ignition methods.

Talking of boxers, the article also mentions that the 308 was very successful in part because it was about 2/3 the price of a BB. It's interesting how pricing has telescoped away from that ratio.

While I had no issues obtaining copies when the magazine was new, it's become a struggle to find a copy anywhere!

There seemed to be a healthy stock on the airport shelves, but maybe international distribution is more limited. It's a good read. Far better journalism than the UK owner's club magazine.

Always better never following what a magazine says and doing what you brain suggests!

The only good criteria is to buy the best car available, whatever model and color it is

There's a good word put in for the turbo 208s, too ;)

The same '97 Car and Driver 308 buyers guide also said to absolutely stay away from the 208 models. I agree, never listen to auto magazines.

I've just finished reading Enzo magazine. It's a great read & very well photographed, as you'd expect from the publishers of Octane.

    I think I'll subscribe.

I don't know what that is. It isn't in the magazine as far as I see. The very last page of this Enzo issue is a report on how a 328 was written off in a test to find the best driver's car of the year back in 1989. It was the only car ever to be written off in these tests. That year, a Porsche 944 won and a Lancia Integrale came close.

It’s a buyer’s guide, it’s on amazon. Has all the usual info as most do and also has driving impressions from actual owners. I happened to pen the one for the Dino GT4 . Never thought it was to be actually published, but more of a online thing. But a pretty cool thing for a average joe like me.

Even though I am a long way from home right now, seeing that article makes me want to get my car back on the road as soon as I get home.

    Thanks for posting
