At Silverstone during the recent British GP, over 30 famous and infamous characters from F1 stood before the worlds largest Polaroid for their portrait to be included in a new SUPER book about F1 history. Officially approved by Bernie himself.

OPUS F1 will be out sometime in 2007, and will include photos from many of the world's best racing photographers.

No price has been announced, but when the OPUS NFL 50 Years Of Superbowl was released, it had a price tag of $4000.00! That is four thousand dollars. OK, there is a 10% discount if paid in full.

But $4000 for a book that isn't 100 years old?

    From their site:

"Opus claimed a pole position last week thanks to F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, signing an agreement to grant permission for the ultimate tribute to the sport to go ahead. Ecclestone’s involvement will mean that the Opus not only has the sport’s official seal of approval, but will grant its editors unique ‘behind the scenes’ access to the teams, drivers, designers, cars and events that will ensure the Opus becomes the definitive document of Formula 1.

The Formula One Opus is the latest high profile project from Kraken Sport & Media Limited to be given the green light, and it will continue the theme of quality, individuality and uniqueness that is central to every Opus project.

The F1 Opus will celebrate in unparalleled depth – and on an epic scale - the story of the Grand Prix World Championship, looking back at the most memorable events, drivers, cars and circuits made famous by a sport that melds man and machine into a high-octane cocktail of glamour and excitement.

For the real enthusiast, the F1 Opus will deliver 800 pages of specially commissioned words by some of the sport’s most celebrated writers including Maurice Hamilton, Jane Nottage, Matt Bishop and David Tremayne, and be illustrated by many previously unseen images, guaranteeing iconic status amongst fans as the ultimate tribute to the most exciting racing sport in the world.

Available to reserve now, with a 10% pre-order discount, the F1 Opus will be published in June 2007."

Blahblahblah. Whatever. I don't know if these are the same guys who put out that Ali book, but the damn thing weighs 75 pounds! My last favorite F1 book, Photo Formula 1, got half eaten by my younger golden retriever last year. Boy, sure would have been happy if I had paid $4K for it. Anyway, how many times have we heard "behind the scenes access"? Of what? Next season? Big whoop. Are they going to have photos of Ralf getting his gay on? Eddie Irvine shagging three hotties? For 4 grand you can join every enthusiast F1 site on the internet, buy all of Schlegelmilch's books and have dough left over to go to Montreal next June. Suck it, Bernie.
