In mid February placed my order for a new F430 Spider after being told that there was a zero chance of me being "allowed" to purchase the 16M. I put my 20k deposit down and purchased a 2009 F430 Spider and have been a little disappointed ever since. First I was told that I could purchase the extended warranty only to find out it is not available in Florida...I'm not sure why. Then when I return home I was notified that I actually could purchase the 16M but the other dealer that I purchased the F430 from was not willing to help out at all on getting me out of that deal to buy the 16M even though they are the ones that told me I would not be able to buy the 16M. OK, that is fine...I wasn't really looking forward to dropping 450k on a 16M (includes the 50k mark-up from the dealer) anyway and besides, I would be too afraid to drive it. When I was picking out options, there was not a system in place to show me what these options were. I wanted to see what was included in the carbon fiber lower driving zone but didn't really get a good explanation. Then, about a month after ordering, I tried to add carbon fiber panels to the sides of the rear engine window compartment and was told the order was locked and I was not allowed to make any changes. Would it really be that difficult to screw in these panels and not the ones that come with it? While picking out options, I was told that I would get a sign-on and password to the Ferrari web site that would allow me to get this information, after 3 requests, I'm still waiting. So, sometime in April or May I get the car of my dreams that will be worth about 75k less than what I just paid for it. I just purchased a new Lexus 600hL and you would have thought I just married the general managers daughter. The service has been second to none. I guess that after spending 275k for a new car in this economy, I was expecting a little more than what I actually received. It could also be the fact that I purchased it 1200 miles from where I am currently living and I don't have the opportunity to stop by the dealership and get all my questions answered. Is this common for Ferrari? Should I just accept that I am fortunate enough to be able to even own one of these or should I actually be disappointed? By the way, this is my first Ferrari purchase.

    Wow. Thats quite a story.

If I may ask which florida dealership did you order the car from?

I do not own/ have not ordered so that comment I will leave to others.

What did you spec for the car if I may ask?

Try to take the car out, drive the hell out of it and enjoy every sniff of burnt tires and feel the breeze messing up your hair.

After spending 275k on a brand new F430, the last thing you deserve is the sense of disappointment. Enjoy and try to look at this situation from a different light. ;)

Unfortunately, what you have described is normal. My experiences are the same - Ferrari has CRAP service while Lexus will make you feel like a king.

Sounds like you are upset from the human experience you have had with the dealership...and not the car.

do not fret...just like the marine corps, you will be one of the few, the proud.

you will swallow your discourse and disenchantment when you take delivery.

post pics and first feelings once you drive it.

    congrats, albeit a little early.

This is classic Ferrari! Just wait until they are unable to fix your car in the shop under warantee and it sits there for parts or for a factory rep to come figure out what part to change next because no one there has a brain to figure out how the Ferrari system works. Do I sound harsh or realistic? I'm on my 4th Ferrari. We will see in the coming months.

Three posts are you're already in the Ferrari Whiner's column?

You wanted a 16 M but, couldn't get it and didn't want it because is was more than you wanted to pay or it was too much car for you, but you whine that you couldn't change your mind because, well, you're entitled somehow.

You complain that the extended warranty is not available in Florida (yet you list your home as Ohio) but you didn't check to see if it's a dealer issue or something out of their control.

You buy a car and didn't bother to do enough research on the options (very easily done from MANY sources including just asking the dealer directly), then complain that after the contract is signed, you can't change it anytime you want.

You complain that somehow you've lost 75K in value since ordering the car? Based on what?

Sell the Ferrari. Trust me, you'll be much happier with the Lexus.

Jim- Find another dealer and see what he can do for you on a 16M. All the orders come through FNA and there should be someone who wants to help you. Start calling and ask to speak with the GM of each dealership. The dealers are all hurting right now and someone will help you if you are persistent. FNA wants your money and you should have no loyalty to the dealer who was unwilling to help you.

Some Ferrari dealerships are going to have to change how they operate, because nowadays bad service does not need to be tolerated. There are many excellent dealers out there, you just have to find the right one.

I recently took delivery of my second F430 Spider, and the process with Ferarri is very different than with other manufactures. That being said, I got through it and have never looked back. It's an awful lot of money, and you'd think that should earn us a much better buying experience. Such is life.

The good news is that I still can't believe what it feels like every single time I get behind the wheel. I could spend the next 10 pages talking about how it feels, but I still wouldn't be able to do it justice.

Nothing is like a Ferarri, NOTHING!!

If you take delivery, you'll forget about all the arogance, and the world for that matter.

    Enjoy:)

Arogance shouldn't be from the dealer and should be from the purchaser who spends the money ; Some of the Ferrari Dealer's bad behaviours and culture are shameful, customer service and total customer satisfaction are the keys to success; however justice is not always here. Indeed, I do agree with "cpiguy" , once you ride on the F430 Spider, you would forget all the negative feelings .... Cheers

Wow you really dont need to act so hostile towards someone who was just expressing a little bit of frustration with Fchatters who may have experienced similar issues. If you dont care to help or say something positive then you should really just not post on this topic. As someone who plans to buy one of these beautiful cars one day, I appreciate threads like this as a heads up of sorts to help me know what to avoid and what issues I should and should not assert myself over to a dealer. Again no need to insult a fellow Fchatter and most importantly a fellow car enthusiast and thank you to all the people who put in some positive input.

IMO some F dealers think they can act like it's still the "good times" and haven't quite made the adjustment yet. Get tougher with them is all I can say.

And go to another dealer for your next one. My dealer is great, never had to deal with any crap or attitude. Sorry to hear many others have had poor experiences. The order process is what it is once placed, but prior to that point you should get more attention and answers than you did.

Ok, if your car goes to what they call red 10, no changes can be made( unless te dealers want to call and beg), and the carbon fiber engine option is really not worth it, you can buy better quality aftermarket parts for much less. Ferrari's website is not great, though the dealer can go online and get you a print out of the car progress. I'm sorry, but it sees this is the first time you have ordered a new Ferrari, and this is the way it is, not a lot of info, and the dealer has very lttle pull with the factory. As for the 16M, I have seen Ferrari throw another car into a dealers allocation, and that may have happened this time. When it comes to buying a Ferrari, it is the end result (driving your car when it arrives), that is the real treat. Do not expect the dealer to treat you like a king, that is not likely to happen. Enjoy the car.

I purchased an 07 Spider from MAG and to add a different perspective my experience has been fantastic. I am in Indiana, and they delivered the car to me and the salesman even drove over in his own car behind the transport and spent half a day with me going over the car. Recently, my car was subject to a safety recall, and Ferrari paid for the enclosed carrier transport back to MAG - MAG picked it up on a Tuesday and it was back in my garage on Wednesday at 5 PM. I would look into a dealer closer to where you live - BTW you will love the car - sounds like this is a dealer issue - not a FNA issue.

If I were you I would seriously consider kissing your deposit goodbye and buy one of the many 2-3k mile loaded 430 spiders for sale right now and keep the extra 100k you already know you will be throwing away. If you aren't set on some crazy color combo there is no need to order it new especially if you are being treated the way you seem to be.

As far as a 16M goes, the dealer who told you no way is at the mercy of both FNA and the customers who are line to get one. A lot of people are backing out of orders. FNA may add or a subtract an allocation at will. As far as changing options go, this is not new. When I ordered mine in 2005, I had just a few days to get the order in when notified my slot had come up and then maybe a week after that to make small changes. After that, it was locked in by the factory.

That's kind of what I was thinking. A couple of carbon fibre panels here or there isn't worth the misery and frustration, and most people end up just getting these cars in the usual red/tan anyway.

Not to justify Ferrari's less-than-responsive service, but maybe the OP is putting too much psychological stock ("car of my dreams", "first Ferrari") in this new car that has dropped $75K before delivery, or an elusive 16M being marked up another $50K.

The market is choked with near-perfect F430s that the original owners sweated over, barely drove, and got soaked on with regard to depreciation. You can still get one with a warranty. I realise there is pleasure in removing the window sticker and tearing the plastic off the seats, but not that much. Plus, put a few hundred miles on a new F430 and it's a used F430. And, the 16M will be yesterday's news when the F430 gets superceded later this year or early next by the F450 or whatever it turns out to be.

If you do take delivery, just enjoy the car and don't count on Ferrari dealers or corporate to make you feel like the king of the world. It's dangerous to expect that of any business, and obviously Ferrari dealers aren't all that good at it.
