Hi Guys, this is my first posting. have throughly enjoyed reading all the threads to date! i currently have a boxster which i have derived a lot of enjoyment from but an keen to get hands on a Fezza. 355 is the car i have bene looking at. I like convertible's so the GTS seems like a a nice mix between the spider and the generally more purist F355 BErl (i am swayed toward this though). my question are, can I use a 355 as an everyday car. would use it a few evenings a week very locally for the Gym! and the occasional once or twice a month trip of about 200miles round trip. would maintaining the beast etc be a nightmare? sorry for all the questions!
Welcome and you will enjoy the information that are discussed here definitely. 355 is a good car and can be driven daily to your requirement that shouldn't be a problem for Berlinetta but for GTS I have been told that a lot of them have roof leakages. That will have some problem with English weather, won't it? Anyway all in all it is a nice car and maintenance is always expensive with Ferraris.
I have a GTS and the roof does not leak. It is great being able take it off and have the open top. ( very quick to do ). Maintenance is not cheap annual service about £750 and cambelts every 3 years £2000. It is a great car to own , not sure about daily driver. James
My GTS roof doesn't leak. Doesn't squeak or rattle either, which I've heard some of them are prone to do
When I first got My 355 GTS the roof did leak but was repaired quite easily and had no further probs, get it You will not be disappointed. Dave Mc
Hi Steve £2000 included all belts, tension bearings and annual service. If only doing belts and no bearings it is about £500 less as I recall. It was done at maranello's.
You could likely save that 500 quid by using an indie (which is the service and belts etc), though you're probably aware of this. If the car's under warranty this won't be of any use just yet, but worth bearing in mind for the future...
I went from a Boxster to a 355. It was quite a strange change to make as they suit completely different driving styles (and I didn't know how to drive the 355 initially!!!!!), the 355 being much much more of a technical 'racing' car to drive - to get the best it needs to be driven at high revs and is a master of long fast sweeping corners. The boxster was fine as an all-rounder daily driver. Berl, GTS and Spider are all good in their own way. With GTS and Spider you get slightly more noise.... which I like Definately a great car for a sports exhaust (as everyone will tell you) Capristo, Tubi, ITO.. they are ALL great !! A great car and worth every penny of the 'expensive' maintainence
You won't regret the 355, especially GTS or Spider. I've never owned a Porsche, but for me, they have no sense of occassion like a Ferrari. It's horses for courses. A friend took me out in his 997 recently, and it suits him because it's basically used for company business as well as fun. But, as Ade said, Ferraris are all about the sound. I nearly walked away from the dealer after sitting in a 355 for the first time (not impressed by the inside). Then he started her up, and that was it for me! Where do I sign........... I think you could probably get away with one as a daily driver, as long as you can afford the servicing costs and suffer the depreciation that mileage puts on them. So, it really all comes down to finances (unfortunately).
I used my 348ts everyday for a year, then upgraded to an F355 GTS and have used it everyday for over a year now. I do the run to work everyday, shopping, general running to the shop, everything. My targa top does not leak at all and the car is a pleasure 100% of the time. I myself had a string of 911's and a boxster some time ago, but have been converted. There really is no comparison. Just be careful where you get it serviced!
i would not recommend to drive only "very locally", be sure the drive long enough to properly warm up the engine.
