I have just purchased my first Ferrari, which is a 1998 355 with an F1 gearbox. The drive back was an experience. It was beautiful to drive, but figuring out how everything functions was not easy, from switching from automatic to manual to the F1 gearbox switching to neutral when I was at the lights at a standstill. Any tips or explanations on how to properly start/drive/put into the park would be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations! I have a stick unfortunately can't advise you with F1 transmission. However, may I suggest you upload some pictures? We all would love to see it!
Must start in neutral Some park in gear others park in neutral with or without emergency brake on(I use neutral and no brake in garage) Brake when out in public I never use automatic other than once in a while to ensure it’s working for me shifting it’s most of the fun Read the manual I have only used slippery once in 20 years to try it but if feels hard on the clutch as it slips it lots read some old thread in search as we have all described before Reverse should not be used if you can help it for the same reason especially backing up an incline (just common sense) Can you do it? Of course it just will wear quicker check clearance between the shift shaft and the cross bracing underneath to ensure it has clearance once per year Other little things ( I replaced the tyco relay for the pump 20 years ago as it fails in open position therefor saving pump if there was a problem Etc etc
