    Hi all,

I just purchased a new to me 2016 Ferrari 488GTB. Super excited. I've had Porsches, R8's, etc but not a Ferrari. I like working on cars and know Porsches pretty well but new to Ferrari.

I got this car from Formula One Imports in Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately it only comes with one key. From what I understand talking to my dealership I need to have a Key Card with an Electronic and Mechanical Code to program a new key. The dealership wasn't helpful on trying to get a second key or getting this Key Card.

Question - is there a way to program a new key without this Key Card?

Does anyone know this car? Seems like it has been tracked. Last 4 of VIN is 6637. Here's the ad from Formula One Imports:

    Thanks in advance!

Thank you greyboxer! I will dig deeper in Ferrari Chat. I was hoping the previous owner or someone that knows the previous owner would be able to find the second key and send it to me :). Wishful thinking.

I ordered a key card for my 430. It was part # 153603. Price was 144.89.

Was this recent? My quote was from early 2024. 100% increase in one year sounds a little rough :)

Scuderia very likely will tell you they can't supply that if you try to order it. Same as trying to order a key from them, they'll email you and say sorry, no can do.

Having a random new key card perhaps is not the same as having a key card which is coded in synch with the keys.

Good to know as well. Makes sense, how would they know that I own the car to sell me the key?

I know because i tried a year ago. Also tried the Amazon keys, they come with incorrectly preprogrammed ID48 immo chips.

Had to buy one from a dealer. Came precut in like 3 days. An independent with Leonardo diagnostics can code it as long as you have the code.

So you need the Key Card with the CODE to program the remote? How do I get the key card with the code for my car? How much was the key from your dealer? Mine quoted $2100 for the key and programming.

Yes. The key card has the cut code and the program code. The key was around $1200. It comes pre-cut, but you still need the program code. The quote I had was $78 for the key card, that comes with the required codes.

Thanks. What dealership did you get your key from?

I had a similar thing with my 430 some years ago after buying it.

I brought the car in, with my registration docs to prove I was the owner, and the one current key that came with the car. With that, they were able to give me a second key, wipe the ecu memory from the existing keys, and then pair my old key plus the existing to the ecu.

Reason for the proof of ownership seems obvious to me now. What if a thief stole your car , took it in and ordered a new key, and then all of a sudden your keys, you as the rightful owner, wouldn’t work any more.

Sure, it was an extra step, and the guys at the dealership that had known me for years made it happen, but didn’t short cut anything.

    I was OK with that.
