Cool video of the new 488 Spider. Love the color. But couldn't help but notice they show almost no driver involvement in the video! Only when he dials the switch for sport options. Gone are the days, as filmed in Rush, Gone in 60 Seconds, Fast and the Furious, James Bond, etc etc, of showing a driver hitting the clutch, heal and toeing, rapidly manly shirting the gear level, etc. There really simply isn't much to film from the inside. So, yes, if you are driving the 488 flat out through hairpins the driver is kept busy....but in real world street driving....snooze.

There's actually even a cool scene in Rush where James Hunt, barefoot, does a clutch shift while Ron Howard shows Lauda shifting while taking his wife for a ride. It's what driving a "sports" car is all about...the sport. In the old days you missed a shift you lost the race. No worry about that now....

They could have a young sexy lady in the passenger seat, and his hand could have caressed her thigh, but I guess the anti Sexist lobby would then have a mass seizure, so they did not!

That is what I like with my F1, my right hand is free to wander!
Something for you Manual lovers to ponder!

    Thanks for the reminder!

I have never seen Rush, I missed it, in theaters, and that's really a movie you would like to see on a big screen....

This is the essence of the debate between F1 and Manual transmissions.

This is the essence of ::
why people who actually like to drive like manuals, and
why people who just like to go fast like F1s.
