I purchased a Ferrari 360 Coupe 2002 w/26K miles last Apr'15. It looks impessive & a good price (I think). The 1st thing I did was chage oil/filter as I didn't get last date changed.
I have changed a few little things like wipers, checked clutch adjustment and other things.

When cheking for clutch adjustment the shop asked about the belt change as it has about 27K miles. I disn't understand when he was explaining all the issues if I run the car above 30K miles. Got into the Ferrari Forum & started to read all the stories (good & bad) about the myths of changing or not changing the belt. Anyway, I just purchased the belt and I was informed that the local dealer will charge about $3K or $4K for the installation!! WOW!! Welcome to Ferrari land!!! I have a 2014 Mercedes 45 AMG and know about high repair cost costs, but this is overwhelming...

Thus, I'm trying to find a video that explains this installation to go out of the local dealer. How difficult is this job that they charge that amount? Could I be able to find that video to share it with another mechanic or shop?
    Thanks for your assistance...

Good thing you didn't buy a 355! There is an incredible amount of info on this site, and I would like to suggest that you do some more homework.

As above you need to do more research. This isn't a Porsche, this isn't a Mercedes.. this is a Ferrari. Nobody gives a rats about the Porsche or the Mercedes. Drive down the street and people take pictures of you in the Ferrari.

That being said, everyone makes a big deal about the belts because if your belt breaks.. a new engine is $40-50k if you can find one. Used engines are $15-20k. A top end valve job starts at $10k. So basically if it blows, its as expensive as a used Porsche to fix it.

Now. There are 3 parts.. 4 that can break that will kill the engine. The belt, the bearing and the tensioner. If you want to consider the variator as well.. go for it. Nobody just replaces the belt. You also replace the bearing and the tensioner because both of those can fail as well.

With $10k+ riding on the belt change, nobody wants some chevy or Porsche mechanic that hasn't done a change before doing it. That is why it is so expensive. Parts alone should be $800+. YOU WANT SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THE **** THEY'RE DOING REPLACING IT. Caveat Emptor my friend.. :) If you wanna play you gotta pay.
